My Chemical Romance Write Their 'Greatest Song' Yet

My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way is feeling positive about his band's fourth album - in fact he's gone as far as to describe one track as the "greatest song" they've ever written.

"The songs are all wildly different, but the one I'm really excited about is called 'Death Before Disco'," Way told Rolling Stone. "It's a completely different sound for the band – it's like an anti-party song that you can party to."

"I can't wait for people to hear it. It brings back, lyrically, some of that wonderful fiction from the first album. I think we wrote our 'Born To Run', and I'm so amped about that. To me, it's the greatest song we've ever written – it's my favourite MCR song."

My Chemical Romance have been working on their fourth album since the start of the year, with the hope of releasing it before 2010 rolls in.

Thanks for the report to Angryape.com.

Depends on your tastes dark, I hated the black parade (Not just because of the culture it spawned) just the fact that it went away from their almost punk roots. Hopefully they'll return to bullets style

I hope they making music with the wonderful chaos that was on Three Cheers again. The Black Parade was too tame and refined.

I really enjoy their Bullets stuff. Even live bootlegs on Youtube of those days are awesome. Back in the days where Gerard was addicted to prescription drugs and makeup wasn't a given. Those songs just seem a lot more mature anyways. Too bad they can never really go back to those days... and I wasn't a huge fan of The Black Parade anyhow like someone else said they seemed like they were... eh... holding back.

Cool, I like them. 3 Cheers was a great album, I thought. Thanks for the Venom is a great song, and it actually has good guitar work, including a good solo, and it's not the only one on the album.

Actually, I expected to be defending them, but there's a surprising lack of hating going on...

Yeah, I thought there would be a lot more when I saw this. Anyway, I think it is cool that they say that they will try new sounds, because honestly, I don't really like these guys at all. I used to hated them, but I heard "I'm not ok, I promise" and my opinion changed. Now I think there an ok band, even if the fans that I know are dumb posers (not that all their fans are dumb posers).

So far.

I really hope this is more like the first 2 albums, they are 2 of my all time favourites. The Black Parade was terrible. And I can't help feeling it'll be more like that. Oh well.

Death before disco was like the most common myspace name for every emo kid aged 12 tot 16. It's also an Emo band (as it came to my understanding) and it aslo holds the word disco which I think with band like panic! at the diso the emo genre is trying to bring back.

Bullets was an excellent album and the reason I got into MCR's music. Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good in my opinion.
I couldn't stand the Black Parade because it was attracting hormonal emo kids and giving MCR a bad name.

As someone said they seem to be going downhill. :\

I'm looking forward to the new album, but I doubt it will be the standard Bullets was.

I was deeply into them a few years ago but grew out of it. Than one day I found that Life On The Murder Scene dvd thing in a box and watched the behind the scenes. They really are cool guys. I think Gerard even said at pne point he hates the emo fan base they made.

I dunno, I like TBP. Teenagers was awesome until it was made a single. Their first 2 albums were great. And their cover of that song (name is slipping...) for that movie wasa good. I have hopes. I'll give em a listen

either way, go mcr

Desolation, originally by Bob Dylan... I didn't really like the cover myself though, although that solo kicked ass.

About the album, I thought it was going going to take longer to come out, and I'm disappointed that it isn't, because I like it when bands release albums sparingly, they're usually better, ESPECIALLY MCR, as their music is decent but is overplayed too ****ing much, and the fanboys are going to get pretty damn annoying every time MCR release an album >.

Black Parade was my favorite album of 2007, i thought it was great. 3 cheers was amazing as well, as was bullets. i dont get the hate going on around this band, they write unique music, if you dont like it you dont like it, there's no reason to bash the band.

How the hell can you Just write a Born to Run, it's a ****ing classic, you can touch it. Is he refering to pressures of releasing an album that tops the last succesful album? It's pretty ****ed to refer to that situation as saying you wrote a Born to run.

I didn't think it was that complicated...Born to Run pretty much defined Springsteen. It's the song that will be forever tied to his name more than any other. I think what he's saying is that he thinks that this will be as defining for My Chem. Not in a sense that "we're as good as Springsteen," but that "this will define us the way that defined him." If that makes any sense

They didnt start off as emo....
if you listen to Bullets and 3 cheers they have a huge punk influence. Only when black parade came out did they get labeled as emo ( not that i hate the album it just wasnt quite as good as the first two )

No not at all really. There are plenty of anti-party songs you can party too.

If you're anti-party, then why intentionally write a song to party to? The main problem with what's being said is that it's the person who wrote the song who's saying it. And why would anyone be anti-party?

My fave Mcr album jumps between all three.

And for the record, Jonathan Davis always says the material on their newest albums is "the greatest yet," and everyone is just disappointed, again. Hyping your own album is just another form of publicity, so be forewarned.

I'd love to have some of the old energy back, and it'd be great to hear Gerard doing back to the vocal style he used back on Bullets and Revenge. Less polished, more energetic.

Black Parade didn't feel like a My Chem album, so I hope this one's a step in the right directon.

I dunno, I like TBP. Teenagers was awesome until it was made a single. Their first 2 albums were great. And their cover of that song (name is slipping...) for that movie wasa good. I have hopes. I'll give em a listen

I enjoy all of My Chemical Romance's albums. Bullets and Revenge are amazing albums but that being said they still do not hold a candle to The Black Parade. I laugh when people say they sold out when they released The Black Parade. I'm sorry but I don't remember Classic Rock being so popular in today's music. I also find it funny that some fans consider MCR going emo with the release of Parade. In my view it is the complete opposite, they were trying to break the emo image that was wrongfully placed on them during the Revenge Era. I have high hopes for this album and I know I have nothing to worry about. I believe they will be going simpler with their 4th album but in way are they going to be rehashing old material. Why should they take two steps back?

ahh anyway back on topic, looking forward to hearing the new album, The Black Parade was cool i thought although my favourite songs by MCR are all off of 'Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge', if they did another album in that style but also mixed in some of the 'grander' elements of the Black Parade then i'd be very interested

It's still a contradiction in terms. As soon as you party to it, it becomes a party song.

Same with the "anti-radio" songs written for the radio....as soon as its on the radio..its a radio song. You cant beat contradiction with fancy word play ladies, specially the ones in this band.

I like this band. Three Cheers was such an edgy album for their genre, even if it was their so-called "sell-out" album. I'm so sick of people buying into what as become the mainstream idea to dislike anything in the mainstream. Comments like "Oh yeah, that was a good song until it became a single" just don't make any sense. You stopped liking a song because everyone else did and you have to be your own unique little snowflake? Get over yourself.

To play devil's advocate, I can completely understand how someone wouldn't like this band, and I know they're just the last grope of a dying scene. I'm not going to sit here and say MCR is the best band ever and piss off if you think otherwise. Something about them just catches my ear though.

And well, Silverstein's third album

It's not so much the "emo" side of the band that I don't like, as much as it is the way they've gotten away from the gothic/poetic style I felt in their guitar work and Ways vocals. Songs like "Vampires Will Never Hurt You" show just how dark they can get in their storytelling. I mean, they still sing about people dying and such in "The Black Parade", but the way that they go about matching the music to the mood is just horrific. I hope they're done exploring his whole "emo" scene. I mean, until "The Black Parade",they were always an emotional band, but never "emo".

By the way, I actually think Mychem are alright. They're just so easy to make fun of and the whole scene just pisses me right off. Emo isn't a genre, it was just a made up word to describe some shitty fashion. Panic at the Disco were an overmanufactured band used to fuel the trend. To make MONEY. It was fixated on the lead singer, which is why in the mix you basically can't hear any guitar. All you can hear is the lead singers typical emo wannabe voice.

Are you freakin serious? The entire black parade album sounded like a COVER CD! It's all heard before. The only 2 songs on the whole disc that sounded slightly original were famous last words and sleep. And maybe the end, but it was only an intro so it doesn't count for much.

Hmm, The more Albums MCR make, the more they'll get bricked at concerts by Metal-heads.
You have to appreciate their bravery at least.

Can't stand any of their previous songs, but I'll have a listen to see if they change my mind, so far, highly doubting it.

should be good. Their pre Black parade stuff is my favourite, even the band got bored of playing TBP. I hope the album is like 'Three Cheers' (their best work imo) but I'm also glad they are bringing back some of the stuff from the 1st album.

I was an intense MCR fan for a very long time, and I was never fond of the Black Parade... I love Bullets and the majority of Three Cheers blows my mind.

That being said, and having heard the new songs live on Buzznet, I am very disappointed. I really wanted an old sound return. Doesn't look like it. It's so upsetting liking a band as much as you do and then having them completely change gears and go somewhere else. Maybe the album will sound different, but as of now, I don't plan on buying it.

LOVE My Chem. And I can't wait for the album to drop... Does anyone know the exact date it comes out? Or has that not been announced yet?

They haven't said what time the album comes out I hoping for really soon.. They have quick ass songs... But I agree with whoever said you can't judge a band by their apperance because yeah they might be childish but let's face it weather you ten or eighty years old you still have some child in you unless ur an alien haha who knows?!!! All I know is MCR rocks! I absolutely love them. All the band members are unic aswell as their music!
Cant wait for their album!
