New Jimi Hendrix Album To Be Released

A new Jimi Hendrix album featuring a host of unreleased studio material is to be released on March 8.

Tracks featured on "Valleys Of Neptune", which is produced by Hendrix's stepsister Janie, along with John McDermott and Eddie Kramer, include covers of Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love" and Elmore James' "Bleeding Heart".

The original version of The Jimi Hendrix Experience rendition of "Hear My Train A Comin'", along with alternate cuts of "Ships Passing Through The Night" and "Lullaby For The Summer" are also included on the album, which was recorded at several studios in London and the US between 1968 and 1970.

Janie Hendrix said that the album offers a "deep insight into [Jimi's] mastery of the recording process and demonstrates the fact that he was as unparalleled a recording innovator as he was a guitarist."

People show a lot of criticism when it comes to these releases

But I don't give a crap about staying true to the original sound, finishing stuff that wasn't really finished yet or releasing leftovers AS LONG AS IT'S DONE WELL and with RESPECT to the artist. Family members and close friends are more likely to do that, but I'm still happy to hear Eddie Kramer's involved 'cause a release like this needs to be looked over by professionals

I'm pretty sure these are all unreleased recordings of the songs, because Stephen Stills found this in his collection last year, and they said it was going to be released soon. It'll probably be remastered, but there's no winning. Expect new recordings, not necessarily new songs.

I disagree, and I'm a Jimi Hendrix fan. I believe that if it introduced more people to his tracks and the feel-good vibe that powers and influences the music, he wouldn't mind the record companies doing this. They'd do it if he was alive anyway because of contracts, I just don't see how a post-humous record makes this any different.

Having said that, I do see where you are coming from.

Anyway, this is exciting news. I wish Black Gold would hurry up and get here (to quote the large majority of people who have already said this).

I'm a huge Hendrix fan (like everyone it seems) but if you look at the extremely detailed way Hendrix worked on his music before allowing it to be released, I can't decide whether I could endorse something like this. Yeah, I'll probably listen to it, and I have heard everything that was released after Hendrix died, but even with Eddie Kramer, I don't know if they can recreate the sound Hendrix had in mind while writing the pieces.

Either way, should be interesting, but still kinda controversial in my mind.

Personally I think Hendrix had the most talent out of any other guitarist. You feel the notes flowing through him, something I haven't seen in too many others. I'll be listening to this.
