New Queen Album To Feature Unreleased Freddie Mercury Tracks?

Remaining Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor are working on a new album, with vocals by the late Freddie Mercury. How is this possible? May said the musicians are going through a ton of unreleased demos to put together a slew of new tracks, according to Ultimate Classic Rock.

It will be the first Queen album with contributions from Mercury since 1995’s Made in Heaven, which also was assembled using recordings Freddie had made before his death in 1991.

In addition, May told the Daily Star that he and Taylor are preparing a new Queen musical to follow-up 2002’s We Will Rock You. "The songs are there," May said, "it’s just a question of finding time to get the right production."

And that’s not all that’s going on with Queen. On November 6, the rock legends will receive the Global Icon award at the MTV European Music Awards. It’s not clear who will sing with the band, although May has suggested that he’d love to work with Lady Gaga.

This could be cool, before everyone shouts "milking it", I'd love to hear some Queen demos or alternate versions of their songs, whatever gets released. I mean, the instrumental of Who wants to live for ever, and the revisited In The Lap Of The Gods are fantastic. If its all mixed properly, it should be good. Queen haven't released a bad album yet, as long as they don't use another singer and sully the legacy of Queen, I'm sure it will be awesome.

Knowing of the quality of some of the stuff in the Queen vaults, I could not begin to want this to happen more than I already do! Here's hoping it's not just a misquoting or something...

Hot Space was a nice album. Just not the music Queen were known for at the time. I couldn't call it a bad album, it has great music on it.

And I don't think John Deacon even picked up a bass in over a decade.

Well, I thought Made in Heaven turned out to be a very good posthumous release, but I doubt that trick will work a second time. Why can't May & Taylor just start a brand new band with Lady Gaga, if they want her so bad, and release brand new music? All those desperate cash grabs wearing the Queen-brand is not doing any good to the legacy.

"Hot Space" is actually one of my favorite Queen records! No, it wasn't full of their typical bombastic craziness, but the songs are nearly all great in my opinion. It's a damn good record.

Great if true. There are loads of great demos around with Freddie's voice, probably more in the vaults. It'd be the perfect end to the Queen saga, one last hurrah. I for one loved Queen + Paul Rodgers, the album was great. Saw them live at Wembley in 2008 and it was the best concert I've EVER seen. Paul Rodgers is a legend in his own right.
