Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor has revealed more information about the group's upcoming album, tentatively due in early 2007. In a December 27, 2006 blog entry on the official NIN fan club web site The Spiral, Reznor writes, "Usually when I finish a record, I have to go into battle with the people whose job is to figure out how to sell the record. The only time that didn't happen was 'With Teeth'. This time, however, I'm expecting an epic struggle. This is not a particularly friendly record and it certainly doesn't sound like anything else out there right now. Artists these days are not encouraged to experiment or take risks, and my punishment is on its way.
" Feeling physically run-down and emotionally insecure at this moment, and baffled as to why I feel the need to share this with you!"
The next Nine Inch Nails album will follow 2005's "With Teeth", which was the group's first collection of new material in six years.
Nine Inch Nails will chronicle the tour in support of its 2005 comeback album "With Teeth" with the DVD "Beside You in Time", due February 27 via Interscope. The main body of the project features 19 songs, two of which ("Right Where It Belongs" and "Beside You in Time") can be viewed from alternate camera angles.
Trailers from "Beside You In Time" can be viewed on the band's web site. The DVD will be available in standard form as well as in HD and Blu-Ray, although the regular edition will include audio mixes in Dolby Digital Stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1.
Reznor played the first solo show of his career on October 21 at Neil Young's Bridge School Benefit outside San Francisco, according to Billboard.com. Reznor was backed only by a four-piece string section as he played subdued versions of Nine Inch Nails tracks such as "Piggy", "The Fragile" and "Hurt".

: This sounds pretty sweet. I love it when artists take risks with experimental music, especially mainstream ones who actually have something to lose. [i]With Teeth[i] was somewhat of a disappointment, but hopefully this new album will make up for it. Trent rocks.POSTED: 12/29/2006 - 10:02 am / quote |

: NEW ALBUM?! Finally, music is saved, seriously. This was another bad year of music, because to me it seemed Nine Inch Nails was completely ignored....again. I hate that, no one can make music anymore.
And the fact that he's trying new sounds just makes me drool all the more.
I loved With_Teeth, there was nothing wrong with it, it was new, mature and manly. *drool*
It had great sound, more lyric filled than The Fragile, seemed like Trent had so much to say that he couldn't shut up and he had to throw us out a new album to whisper more to us.
I'm so damn excited, I hope we don't have to wait too long for it....'07 is saved. I was worried W_T was his last album, and I'm so glad he didn't wait another 6 years....so he likes to torture us with time, now that's music.

: NIN use to have more than one member, right? what happened to all them? or was it alwase trent? idk... however i will say this, i love there music. it's awesome stuff.
I will say this, Johnny Cash did do a better version of hurt, but i was supprised to see him do that song at all.
With Teeth is an amazing album, and i hope the new one can live up to it. It probably will, if not be better.POSTED: 01/02/2007 - 11:41 am / quote |

Johnny Cash is so over-rated it makes me sick and that remake itself was a travesty. Hurt is such a great and moody song and should have never been remade.
I havent really listned to NIN since for quite some time but i have to give Trent some mad props for making the record he wants to make, and bowing down to what the companies wanted him to make.POSTED: 01/02/2007 - 12:34 pm / quote |

well said. Trent will never sell out. Will never do something that someone tells him to unless he agrees with it. He always stays true to himself, and if Cristina Agulara sells a double platinum album and Trent only sales a single platinum, he doesn't give a ****, and many people think he rushed it, but really he's been writing it for a ****ing year and a half, he wrote most of it while he was on tour. I'm VERY happy with the sober Trent. And on the Johnny Cash thing, i don't agree that Johnny Cash did a better version, but all i can say is this, i can't ****ing stand it when people think it's the other way around, and that Trent covered Johnny. Trent is (by the media and general music listeners) very underrated. Johnny Cash's version was good, no doubt, and fit his life perfectly, but Trent's version will always be the best 'original' version there can ever be.POSTED: 01/03/2007 - 12:06 am / quote |

You all literally argue WHAT IS ROCK or METAL in every thead, and most of yall are around 14. |
That's an opinion man, you won't get banned for that.
Anyways, can't wait for the new NIN album, it's gonna be ****ing awesome. I respect Trent so much for going through all the corporate bullshit just so he can stay true to himself and his fans, he's one of a kind. It's good that a lot of ppl respect him too, otherwise he'll go crazy. When i say NIN in Toronto, in the middle of the concert, he said "Shows like these are the reason why we go through all the corporate bullshit!" We gave him a big applause for that
Also, Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt was really good, he reinterpreted the song his way, which is what good covers are all about. I can't say which one is better, they're just both good in their own way.POSTED: 01/03/2007 - 12:57 pm / quote |

trent recorded pretty hate machine by himself, and his original touring band was the two guys from filter, and charlie clouser on drums. the downward spiral era was his best live lineup. IMHO

wow. where do we even start? johnny cash is a god. kahlan, you must not be a musician, because if you were you would know most guitarists would have given up their firstborn to have johnny cover one of their tunes.
i may not like the cash version quite as much, {it's a close one} but i will tell you this--i didn't cry the first time i heard TDS, but i did when i saw johnny's video for hurt.
no one ever said trent didn't do it right. covers are tributes--you play tunes of people you respect. {although johnny was unfarmiliar with NIN. rick rubin just gave him the lyrics, with "thorns" replacing "s**t" so as not to upset his "christian sensibilities"}
p.s. download "terrible lie" {credited as tool, a perfect circle, or maynard james keenan} and tell me you can't redo a NIN song with an acoustic guitar.
i myself play hurt at open mics sometimes, and i play it like johnny and sing it like trent. i also play the acoustic terrible lie, and have my own acoustic rendition of sin. so really, you have no idea what you are talking about. if you doubt my NIN fandom, have a look at this here tattoo i have had since 1994.

: Halo00zero, well I never said I HATED Cash, just that he's more country, and I prefer rock and all that. I just prefer tribute rock songs to be played by other rock musitians....country just isn't the best in MY taste, not yours, k?
And good for you for playing great music, and you're not a country music artist, correct?
Dear sir, who said I was doubting you??
And houney, I don't need to see a tattoo as proof of your NIN fandom, I already know by your reaction to my so called 'free speach opinion".
And no, Cash is not a god, I don't think he would've liked to be labled as a 'god' if he himself was a Man of God the All Mighty.
But yeah, Tool is awesome and I never knew they did a tribute to Terrible Lie, now if some country singer did a Tribute to Terrible Lie, I sure as hell wouldn't waste my time listening to it. Get what I am saying?
Yeah, of course you do.
