Pantera: New Greatest-Hits Collection, Vinyl Reissues

A new Pantera greatest-hits collection will be made available on March 30, titled "1990-2000: A Decade Of Domination", according to The Pulse of Radio. No details of what will be included on the release have been announced yet. Meanwhile, vinyl reissues of the band's three biggest albums — "Cowboys From Hell", "Vulgar Display Of Power" and "Far Beyond Driven" — are scheduled to surface on April 17. A 20th-anniversary remastered edition of "Cowboys", with bonus tracks and new artwork, is also expected to appear later in the year.

Former Pantera manager Kimberly Zide Davis, who joined Concrete Management in 1994, and served as vice president of artist management until the organization ceased operations in 2003, was interviewed for Guitar World's January 2010 issue, which paid tribute to late Pantera/Damageplan guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott.

During the chat she stated, "[In 2010], we're going to do a 20th-anniversary re-release of 'Cowboys From Hell'. There will be some extra stuff people haven't heard before, deluxe packaging, digital remastering... I wish there was more [previously unreleased material], but that's one thing about Pantera; they didn't do extra material. What they did is what everybody got. They didn't do throwaway songs. . . We're [also] going to re-release the entire catalog on vinyl. And then in 2012 we'll do the 20th-anniversary deluxe reissue of 'Vulgar Display Of Power', and then the same for 'Far Beyond Driven' in 2014. There are also a few other things we're working on, like trying to come up with a good way to get live shows out to fans, whether through downloads or a web site or some other avenue. And hopefully we'll release a fourth home video. The footage is definitely there. It's just a matter of getting it all together."

Pantera's career-overview CD, "The Best Of Pantera: Far Beyond The Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits!" (Elektra/Rhino), was certified platinum on January 13, 2006 by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for shipments in excess of one million copies in the US. The band's classic "Vulgar Display Of Power" (Elektra) album was certified double-platinum in 2004, signifying shipments of more than 2,000,000 units in the US since its February 25, 1992 release.

I wish that they would remaster and re-release the first four Pantera albums. Power Metal is a masterpiece and why anyone would ever be ashamed of making an album of that quality is beyond me. Honestly, I think it's their best album.

Pantera is not over rated. Dimebag is overrated,this does not mean he is not a great guitar player because he is,but his death vaulted him into a new status.

I hate all the 13 year olds on this site that always throw up their RIP dime in every Pantera thread. You know these guys started listening to him the day after he died.

Pantera ARE an overrated band. That doesn't mean they're bad or anything, they just get way too much attention. They have three great albums that I love, and I like FBD alot as well. Other than maybe "10's", the only songs on the last two albums that were any good were "Drag The Waters" and "Revolution Is My Name". They should have stopped getting attention in 1996 when their first lackluster album (that they take credit for) came out. This greatest hits album should reflect that.

Trendkill and RTS are my favorite Pantera records! CFH and VDoP are probably my least favorites... Pantera is like good whiskey... the older they got, the better they got!

Pantera ruined metal for me. They showed me that metal reached it's peek with them and that was it. I have never been able to love a metal band or even a guitarist like I love Pantera and Dimebag. You guys may not agree with, but this is how I truly feel. I love Pantera and that's the height of heavy metal for me.

Pantera ****ing rules, now let's stop bickering. If you don't like Pantera you don't have to post. Sure they may not have been the best ever and yeah maybe some 13 year old kids worship the ground Dime walked on, but they will get over it just like everyone else (you included most likely). Telling them how overrated Pantera is fixes nothing, so instead of having this pointless fight either pay tribute to a band you love or leave. RIP Dime.

Anniversary albums are rarely worth the extra cash, they usually just have a few live tracks that you can get elsewhere.

I've been a Pantera fan for a while now. I did get into 'em a few years after Dime died, and I was on the bandwagon for a while. Basically, it's a phase you grow out of. Now I can listen to thier music and appreciate them as a band, and not just worship the guitar player. I mean, listen to Damageplan, I liked that album, but they lacked the chemistry that Pantera had. Sure, Pantera couldn't have been what they were without Dime, but it's the same story with Phil, Vinnie, and Rex.

You're kidding, beyond vulgar... Pantera became a really poor band, and power metal was an example of making music, good riffs, great solos and Phill SINGING and not screaming shit with that "oh yeah I'm so fu***** rude attitude", I think VDOP was the last good album, the ones after that had 2 or 3 good songs but the rest were crap

No. I'll admit that the three albums before Power Metal were pretty bad but honestly, Cowboys From Hell (as awesome as it is) was a turn for the worse. If you haven't heard Power Metal, go listen to it. I'd even say it's one of the best thrash (cleverly disguised as hair) metal albums of all time.
