Pixies To Reunite For New Album

Ever since the Pixies reunited for a world tour in 2004, rumours have been flying about whether the band would record a new album.

In June 2004, the legendary alternative band released a new single, "Bam Thwok", but a full-length album did not follow, despite the tremendous success of their world tour.

Frontman Black Francis told NME.COM this week that he has not ruled out the possibility that his band will reconvene to record a new album, which would be their first since 1991's "Trompe Le Monde".

"It's just a waiting game right now," Francis told NME.COM. "Whatever we do in the future is gonna have to be fresh.

"I have to see if the band as a whole wants to go into the recording studio for a new record," he added. "That makes sense on some level. For us, there's gotta be an angle. It can't be just playing our old songs over and over."

Francis is currently touring the world in support of his recent solo albums "Svn Fngrs" and "Bluefinger".

Oh my god, I want to hurt the person who wrote that headline (and probably every other misleading headline on this site) very badly. Frank Black has been giving us this same answer for the past two years and so far, and nothing up to this point confirmed the making of a new album. So basically, the headline 'Pixies to Reunite for New Album' is completely and utterly false. Its like saying 'Barack Obama will be our Next President' when its only a possibility. What the hell.

This isn't new development! If they do make a new albume hopefully it is as good as Dinosaur Jr.'s comeback album because Dinosaur Jr.'s album was ****ing fantastic.

2 or 3 years ago I read an article on here about Francis saying that he tried to record new pixies songs for an album but he couldn't write anything like or as good as the pixies older stuff, so he gave up on it. I would be stoked if pixies did a new album but I doubt it will ever happen, even if it did it wouldn't be as good as their old stuff.

Yeah, after seeing their rockumentary on their "re-united" tour, they seemed extremely dysfunctional as a bad and as individuals. It was down right depressing. If they make a new album that's good, Frank will have to pull it out of his ass. Every solo project he's had have paled into comparison to his former glory and he's lost several record labels because of his lack of records sold.

I agree with Peterjs. Although this does instill a little more hope in me, I'm not sure if they'll get it together. In previous interviews, FB didn't sound as confident as in this one, so that may be a good sign.

This story is a bit misleading. Basically Charles Thompson is(and has been) putting the feelers out to the rest of the band to say "Come on' guys why not?". The waiting game is with Kim. If anyone saw Loud Quiet Loud it was obvious that Kim was the most tortured about being with the band. On one hand she loved it on the other hand she seemed to still have something to prove to Charles after all these years taking the inspiration from the tour to write new Breeders songs on her own personal tour bus that she shared with Kelly... ...Very tacky I thought considering that when the tour kicked off she all she was doing was knitting and taking care of her mother. If it's that important to her why doesn't she say that she'll do it only if she can have song writing input.
