Plus 44 Demoing For Next Album

artist: plus 44 date: 12/04/2007 category: upcoming releases

Mark Hoppus has updated his blog with a status update on his production work and the second album from his Plus-44 project. The band, which also features members of the Mercy Killers, has resigned with Interscope Records and Mark adds:

"I’m taking a couple of weeks right now to finish the Our Lunar Activities album. Tthose of you who came to the last +44 European tour will remember them. They are in the studio with us now recording a few more songs before their album is finished. Then Chris Holmes is mixing it. We’re three days in now, finished with the drums, and all of the guitars and bass for one song are done.

"Also, for those of you keeping score, we have more than 20 songs in various stages of demo’ing for the new +44 record. Awesome."

The band, which includes two-thirds of Blink-182 released When Your Heart Stops Beating last year.

This should be really good. They went in a good direction with their debut; different to what I thought they would when they formed, and better.

just found this, youll prob find it interesting. it tells how tom wasnt the total making of the blink 182 break up. Its from a guy who interviewed tom.

I found this on angels-and-airwaves.com it

Alright so this was posted on absolutepunk.net after some dude was asked constantly about it

Ok, so I met him after their show in OKC here last year. Hung out for about 45 minutes after the show talking to David, Tom gets out of the shower and comes out of the bus to talk to only 6 of us. We talked for about an hour to an hour and a half, and by the end, after being a geeky fan boy, everyone else was gone but me and my girlfriend, so we got into the Blink breakup (apparently I'd proven myself worthy with all my knowledge. lol.

They're on a world tour over in Europe (I believe it was), and fighting started. Mark saw an email in Tom's inbox of Geffen offering Tom a solo album. Tom had written them an email back saying that Blink was his priority at this time and declined the offer. Mark didn't check the sent messages and started screaming at Tom about how he was about to ditch Blink (apparently he never QUITE got "over" Boxcar Racer, even though he had guest vocals on the album, and this has been stated, that Mark was hurt by the project, in many interviews by Tom). So, naturally, Mark thought that Tom was going to leave Blink and do his own thing. Fighting began in Europe (coincidently, this is the same tour that Mark and Travis made +44... the phone call code for where they were touring at). Tom was still in Blink, had no plans for AVA, but things were starting to break down a bit. The fighting and everything got more intense, and that sucked because they had a fall/winter tour lined up after this one. However, by the end of this tour Tom said he needed time to take off a bit with his family and very young daughter and just needed a short break from the road. Mark and Travis obliged and Blink was taking a little 6 month break from touring. Mark and Travis weren't happy because it meant that all the tour road crew weren't going to be getting the money they thought before Christmas, but still agreed to go on the break. During the break, Travis calls Tom and tells him that they need to go record the theme song for his new reality show. Tom was like "we're on a break I though, but ok we can do that". During the recording, Mark began questioning why Tom needed his time off and everything, and tensions rose again. They recordded the song, and were still on their break. Then Hurricane Katrina happened. Mark made some calls and booked 2 shows without talking to Tom. Tom gets the call from management that says they've got two days of rehearsal for these shows. Instantly, Tom is upset because he wanted his break and seemed to be busy with Blink during the time he was supposed to be getting a break from the rockstar life, but he agrees because it's got a good cause. He shows up to rehearsal the first day and Mark and Travis start ripping into him about the break and how it's bullshit and it's his job and how he doesn't need to take a break and he can bring his family on the road with him and everything. Tom didn't like it, and decided not to show up the next day. Instead, Rick (their manager) showed up to tell Mark and Travis that Tom had left Blink. Mark shot back with "ok good, we already made another band anyway". After a few weeks of feeling "lost and confused" and strung out on the back painkillers mentioned in this article, Tom decided it was time for something new. A breath of fresh air to take the negativity out of his life and "preach" a message of hope. And Angels and Airwaves was born.

He had nothing but great things to say about Mark and Travis. As we talked about clips from the Urethra Chronicles, and stories I'd read in their biography "Tales From Beneath Your Mom", he would laugh and talk about how funny those times were. He also said that he knows he'll talk to those guys again one day because they've been through too much and they're his best friends. Also, the show was Nov. 6... around when the +44 album came out, and to MY surprise, he said he had not heard the album "but was excited to hear it because Mark and Travis are both absolutely amazing musicians, so I'm sure it'll be ****ing awesome. I hope it does well for them."

So, after knowing all this, and talking to him, and seeing how he was, it pissed me off SOOOO bad to see everyone being lame and talking shit about him and everything. Tom, if you're mad I posted this (IF you actually read on here anymore), I'm sorry. Feel free to leave any questions or comments. Also, sorry for any typos, it's 2 am and I was typing fast. Haha."

I've read that before, and there's some discrepancies regarding that "interview." Of course, that depends on whether you're on Tom's side, or Mark and Travis' side.
Mark saw an email in Tom's inbox of Geffen offering Tom a solo album.

According to Mark, he was accidentally CC'd on those e-mails, thus he couldn't check Tom's sent messages.
coincidently, this is the same tour that Mark and Travis made +44... the phone call code for where they were touring at

Marks states that it was made clear during the break that he and Travis were still going to work on music. I believe this was made clear to management and Tom, who both agreed.

Mark stated that he called management telling them he wanted to do a benefit show, and he knew it was on Tom's break, but that he would do it acoustic himself, or he and Travis could hire a replacement guitarist for the show. Management said that Tom would do it, as he had also expressed interest in doing something for the victims.

In any case, good news about the new +44 album. It should be awesome.

Thankls for posting that angelsandairwaves 3. I think like most blink fans I had only heard the one side of the story and been pretty convinced by it, although as the interview was taken from angelsandairwaves.com, I'm not going to assume that it is the complete truth. Its interesting to see what Tom has had to say over the break up because he has been a lot quiter about it than the others. I'm not going to bother comparing angels and airwaves and +44, andthey're both ok bands but to be honest now I dont care whos fault the break up was.
I think I speak for the majority of the fans when I say we just want blink back now.

your forgetting the part where rick showed up and told mark and travis tom had left the band for good, and when they said they needed to talk about it because they had been through so much, he replied that he had completely changed his number and didn't want to talk to them ever again. All three of them are immature and clearly couldnt share the "spotlight." i love them and

i still havent even decided whose side im on when it comes to the B182 break up because ull never really know with these different sides of the story nowadays. Travis and Mark are fricken crazy musicians, i love their stuff and how they stuck to their punk rock side of their music. Tom is a legend, he is awesome but i dont like his angels and airwaves stuff as much because its too climatic and its just kinda anoying because almost all the songs sound the same. The one major thing i dont like about +44 is all of their songs are depressing except for cliff diving. Its kinda lame cuz im not a depressed person and i dont enjoy listening to that stuff.

either way im hoping this album is a littl emore optimistic. Im sure it will be good either way because tom and mark are brilliant

stradivari310 :
I think that both bands are great and will have successful runs. But in the end, I think Blink will probably end up at least reconciling their differences. The best-case scenario would be that they take their new musical direction and collaborate, possibly on a new Blink album. It's a nice fantasy.

And I'm glad to hear both sides of the story. I still sympathize with Mark because obviously Tom didn't do a good job of clarifying things and he didn't even have the courage to quit the band himself, but there was definitely a misunderstanding. I hope we eventually know who's right.

+44 is all right. i only liked about half the songs on the new ablum and just wasn't able to completely obsess over any. sure they're way better than angels and airwaves but i just hope their next album is a little more oldschool-blink sounding.

Yay! Finally! Although I found this out weeks ago on Mark Hoppus' blog site, I'm still on a high about it.

I loved When Your Heart Stops Beating, it's better than whatever Tom thinks he's doing.

But blink-182...honestly, I think its better that they went out when they were on top. It would be weird if they came back and started singing about the same stuff, cuz they're all in their 30's and married.
I still miss them though. Haha
