Queen: New Album Due In October

Queen + Paul Rodgers will release their new album, "The Cosmos Rocks", in Europe on September 15 and the U.S./Canada on October 14 via EMI. A single, "C-lebrity", will precede the album on September 8.

"C-lebrity" was written and produced by Brian May, Paul Rodgers and Roger Taylor.

Many of Queen's best-known songs have been written in humor, and "C-lebrity" follows in this pattern; it is a comment on the celebrity-driven times in which we live where the myriad of reality-based TV shows are producing a generation of C-lebrities.

The track received its first airing as an exclusive on TV's "Al Murray's Happy Hour", since when, according to Brian May, "we went back in and roughed up the studio version a bit. I think it gives a fair idea of the kind of energy on the album."

Commented drummer Roger Taylor: "'C-lebrity' is really a comment on the current concept of fame — success and all that goes with it. Getting your face on TV is enough — talent doesn't really enter into the equation. 'Celebrity' is an overused and devalued word today."

Vocalist Paul Rodgers added: "I see the song as Roger's take on the increasing emphasis on fame for its own sake. It's quite ironic that Andy Warhol's statement that everyone will have fifteen minutes of fame is becoming something of a reality, although it may be down to fifteen seconds in today's world of instant communication."

"The Cosmos Rocks" album, produced and performed by Brian May, Paul Rodgers and Roger Taylor, and written by Queen + Paul Rodgers, featuring 13-all new songs, is out to coincide with the mid-September start of the European tour. It marks the first Queen album of new material since 1995.

Personally I think that on Queens old albums, the songs written and sung by Brian and Rodger were just as good as the ones with Freddie singing. And Paul Rodgers stuff is pretty awesome too. So I have very high expectations for the album.

GOD, you guys are STUPID as HELL!!!!! Paul is not trying to replace Freddie at all! He is singing in his own style, how he would sing them if he wrote the songs! I personally think this album is going to be amazing. Paul is an amazing singer, and the remaining members of Queen are amazing musicians. Why should a band that amazing just call it quits just because their singer dies? Sure this isnt going to be the same without Freddie, but they're not trying to make it the same!

Obviously anytime a member of a supergroup such as Queen dies, it will never be the same especially when that person is Freddie Mercury. But Roger and Brian make a good point; music is their career so why should they step down and quit all together? Let's face it, there is no young talent out their today that will ever amount to the juggernaut that is Queen. With their intricately created albums and their stunning live shows there simply is nobody better. Get over what they call themselves, who cares! It's not like they're defaming Freddie. The new album carries a dedication to him, Brian has said that he often feels Freddie's presence. Bottomline: this album is a great idea and will be a wonderful collection of songs from three very talented musicians.

Just because most of Greatest Hits is written by Freddie, it doesn't mean that his songs are the best - just that his songs was released as singles. Brian May is one of my favorite songwriters ever, and if he writes the bulk of the songs, it will probably turn out neatly. But of course, he is responsible to sme horrible songs as well...

I've been a missive Freddie Mercury (and Queen of course) fan for as long as I can remember and I think this is some of the best (old) news going right now. I couldn't think of a better singer to work with Brian May and Roger Taylor. I'm glad they didn't get someone who tried to mimic Freddie and is a massive star in his own right. Naysayers be damned, I think we're in for a great rock record.

It's very important that the Write "Queen+ Paul Rodgers", it just Shows that they are'nt trying to combine the Two and Make it Just "Queen".
Freddie is My Hero, and even though its without Him, The Album cant be THAT Bad, i mean... Brian And Roger are both there. It Must have that 'Queen' Touch.

With everyone talking about Freddie, John Deacon seems to have been forgotten. His basslines and his locking with Roger Taylor were a huge part of what made Queen one of the best bands ever.

Brian May is a great musician he might be the best reason to buy this album however im gunna have to say it's not going to anywhere near as epic as an album by Queen i personaly think its worse that Bass guitarist John Deacon is gone then the fact that Freddie mercury not being in the band i mean its obviously sadder that Fred is dead then the fact that John left but the vocals to me aren't that important if they were id listen to crap like Leona Lewis Freddie was a great singer thats just not what matters to me that much to me the most impressive thing about Freddie was his song writing skills Brian May is still playing though so its going to be a pretty good album Brian is a skilled guitarist and good songwriter so i think i might buy this i will be listening to some of the songs first though

Queen will always be remembered as one of rock's great bands. If they wanted to try the impossible and ''replace'' Fred, they would have gone with an unknown guy, not Paul Rodgers, an already established artist in his own right. Brian and Roger wanted to tour again, bringing the songs to a new generation, and they have done just that. Rodgers doesn't immitate Freddie, he does the songs in his own way, a testament to Freddies genius and ability. It is apparent at the gigs they are not replacing Freddie as there is a big tribute to him. A lot of narrow minded comments on here wont allow 2 members of a legendary band to enjoy life once more, their problem. I welcome the new album, from Queen and Paul Rodgers, not Queen. If anyone has earned the right to rock out once more its those 2.
