Raconteurs: New Album Next Week

Rock group the Raconteurs, whose members include Jack White of the White Stripes, is bypassing the standard months-long wait between finishing an album and releasing it with "Consolers of the Lonely," which will hit stores only weeks after completion.

The Third Man/Warner Bros. release, scheduled to hit retail shelves March 25, was completed the first week of March, according to a statement from the band.

"The purpose: to get the album to the fans as soon as possible and as we promised," the band says. "We wanted to get this record to fans, the press, radio, etc., all at the Exact Same Time so that no one has an upper hand on anyone else regarding it's availability, reception or perception."

"Consolers" will be available on CD, vinyl and digital through leading retailers. "Some places couldn't move this fast, so they will join in as soon as they can," reads the statement, without elaboration.

The band's Web site will offer the album as a complete download in 320-kb fidelity. Individual tracks will be available at iTunes and Amazon.com. A video for the first single, "Salute Your Solution," will hit the Web on March 25.

I'm totally buying it on vinyl regardless of my stereotypical college poorness, and I'm totally gonna play it on my non-so-typical college dorm room vinyl hi-fi setup.

Yeah this totally threw me off guard. I didn't even know they worked on an album yet and now they are releasing this month? Wow. I wish more bands today would do stuff like this. Kinda reminds of me when the beatles and Zeppelin use to put albums out this fast. Hopefully this album is good.

I hate double-posting, but after seeing the track listing, I really wish they would have put "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" on there. Absolutely love their cover of that song and the chances of them coming remotely near my hometown are slight at best. I guess that's what YouTube is for, though. Still great news.

Cool idea, then the risk of the album being leaked goes down. I bought the first cd a while ago, so I'm pretty excited.

Just pre ordered it, this album is going to be good, of this there can be no doubt

its quite clever. unless i probably havent been up to date with em saying the albums out this week is a handy way to stop illegal piracy. by not giving a date the album cudnt be easily leaked

sorry about that. I have a mac and it does this thing where the screen automatically scrolls down a tad after its done loading. I meant to click on the "fall out boy plays antartica" article but clicked this one instead and didnt really read it. I like the racounters as well as the white stripes. they are a good blues based experimental band.

I love that they do that, no one needs to wait months after an album has been finished, if its done its done.

jack white has a lot of songs with bass in it. in the white stripes, there are usually only three different sounds per song, so the fact that there might not be bass in the song is for a reason.
