I hope they make it more dynamic than In Rainbows. OK Computer and Kid A were such complex albums and while I enjoyed In Rainbows it didn't feel like they were reaching their potential.

I 100% agree with this. In rainbows was nowhere near their best album. I think people just drool over radiohead and think all their stuff is amazing. Hopefully the next one has some rock to it and less repetition within each song.

have u guys noticed the singer for radiohead live? he looks like hes high as a kite. if u take a look at cold play's singer he does the same thing. i hate coldplay, u may not be able to steal posses, but they did steal from satriani too.

anyway back to radiohead, theyre really good. i might take a listen to this upcoming album.

Yes, In Rainbows was a weak album compared to other releases that year and especially compared to their previous albums. Videotape was a genius song and I enjoy Nude but the rest just leave a bad taste in my mouth. Lets hope they come out with something that can stand against Kid A and OK Computer

In Rainbows was not one of Radiohead's best but I reckon thats more to do with us than them. It's very high quality music I think we just love the rawness of OKC and the Bends. And who wants warm happy music from Radiohead anyway?

Jigsaw falling into place and body snatchers were genius rock songs tho.

Where has all the hatred for In rainbows come from? Speaking as a long term Radiohead fan I think you may have missed the point of it somewhat. Firstly, they weren't trying to outdo Kid A for experimentalism or The Bends for rock tunes, that would have been a waste of time and I'm glad they tried something different. Compared to their previous work, In rainbows is noticeably more soulful and upbeat.
Secondly, the repetition in In Rainbows is pretty minimal and the songs rarely end up in a similar place to where they start (with the notable exception of Nude).
Of course, this is a matter of opinion and you're free to dislike whatever you want, but there's no reason not to give it a second chance.

as far as all the knocks against in rainbows, if i remember right, kid a took a lot of criticism when it came out too. not saying either is better, im just saying radiohead goes out of their way to never make the same album twice. it's been a year and a half and i still can't stop listening to in rainbows. i think its good that they have a loose album every once in a while too.

god i can't wait

Radiohead has always been one of my favorite bands, and I agree that they are very "likeable." I recommend Radiohead to my metal friends and my indie friends, and the vast majority of them have positive responses. Of course there is the odd hater... whatever. My top 10 albums of all time are pretty much maximum metalness, but OK Computer is right there at no. 2. That album is almost flawless IMO. And they've not disappointed ever since. Recknoner is my fave from In Rainbows, can't wait to see what's next!

With this news, I consider today to be a glorious day. It's been a bad week for me thus far, but I feel my luck could change. No album since The Bends has been a let down. Some people don't like this band, but I say I'm a reasonable man, so get off my case. Besides, who's going to stop me from liking them? You and whose army? I think that this will be a great album, unlike their debut, Pablo Honey. (Nice dream.) While some say that In Rainbows left them high and dry, I think that it was a good effort, and made me fitter, happier, and more productive. Jonny's guitar work will be fantastic as always, but as they say, anyone can play guitar. No surprises that they're going to shock us all with the direction of the upcoming album, which has made subterranean homesick aliens out of some fans, but I think they're just creeps and weirdos. I really hope some of this new material will be featured in a motion picture soundtrack (maybe exit music for a film?). Actually, I'm feeling very optimistic about those chances. They're not going to leave me in limbo. I'm relieved by the news of their return to the studio. I thought they'd disappeared completely. But there, there, there's nothing to get the karma police on you for. I will go to sleep tonight after standing up and sitting down, saddened by my stupid car and the annoying talk show host on the TV, and gladdened by the new album. I might be wrong, but I think it'll be made of win.

well i mean every radiohead album is different, im sure they havent gone down on a "soft" music path, they just felt like making a softer album for a change. im sure that in the future, probally in this album actually, they will have more guitar driven rock

Pablo honey 1993, The Bends 1995, Ok Computer 1998, Kid A 2000, Amnesiac (which is a double album with Kid A) 2001, Hail to the Thief 2003 and In Rainbows 2007, I just hope they are not rushing their genius minds.
I love it and cant wait.

Here's a semi-serious post now... Hope you hardcore fans out there appreciated my series of bad puns, haha.

I'm just really hoping that Radiohead take off in an entirely new musical direction with this album. It's what they've done for every single album they've put out so far, and it's worked for every album they've released. The Bends got a warm welcome after the mediocre songs of Pablo Honey. OK Computer was, of course, a smash hit. Kid A just about abandoned rock roots entirely, but it worked anyways. It wasn't liked at all when it was first released, but it's massively popular now. Amnesiac returned to a more guitar-oriented sound, but with plenty of electronic music influence present. Mixed reactions from fans to this day, but a good majority of the fans feel as if it's another essential album. Hail to the Thief was an entire musical landscape within an album. Some claim that it was their weakest album, but a good portion more welcomed the new sounds. In Rainbows introduced the band's most subdued and soft material, which a lot of people didn't like (surprisingly.) On the other hand, it turned a lot of people on to Radiohead and made new recruits to the musical cause.

The point is, Radiohead no longer care about what their fans think about them or their music, because they know they'll be putting out what THEY think is great music for a long time, and they know that the most dedicated fans out there are the only ones worth keeping anyways. More bands should do that sort of thing, instead of consistently giving their fans what they want to hear. AC/DC somehow BS'd their way through their career writing the same few songs over and over (which their fans gobbled up eagerly), but Radiohead will have none of that. They'll make the music they want to make, and they don't care about anything else.

the bends was brilliant, OK Computer was amazing, kid a was radical and hail to the thief was raw and clever. In rainbows was fairly good too, it has some interesting time signatures etc, but i hope this can match at least some of their older albums (you cant match ok computer). Ive been looking for news of this album for months! i liked ok computer and hail to the thief because they made you shiver and feel inspired. In rainbows was almost too well mixed and it didnt sound raw enough. RADIOHEAD RULE!

Umm. I didn't think as much of In Rainbows as everyone else seemed to (it was good, nothing more) so I'm intrigued to see where they go with this.

I 100% agree with this. In rainbows was nowhere near their best album. I think people just drool over radiohead and think all their stuff is amazing. Hopefully the next one has some rock to it and less repetition within each song.

I agree with you guys, i thought i was the only one who didn't think In Rainbows lived up to all the hype. I'm a huge Radiohead fan, i have every studio album, plus a few EP's, Thom Yorkes solo album, a Video collection and i've seen them live. (i also have a Kid A poster on my door) But i didn't really like In Rainbows, it was really bland, and it seemed like they were just going through the motions. It's my least favourite studio album along with Pablo Honey.
It's great to hear they're working on a new album, i hope it lives up to all our expectations, they are an amazing band.

In Rainbows is Awesome! I was blown away when I heard Reckoner and All I Need....Anyone who thought it was a weak album has got problems, It was a classic instance of what Radiohead do best, that is, write brilliant music!!

I'll be very surprised if Radiohead's next album is bad.

Radiohead = Pure Genius

HAHA!! Someone actually mentioned that to me before but I think Neil Young sounds more like the old guy more then Thom Yorke does. Thom Yorke is more airy sounding and the S's that the old guy says always have a lisp, it's annoying actually. I think he's the least funny character on the show.

repetition with each song? no two songs on in rainbows sounded alike... go listen to coldplay ya homo

first of all, get a better grasp of the english language. I said within each song. How can you tell me that these songs wander though music theory like their previous work does? yeah they throw a bunch of different sounds on the album. congratulations. i expect more out of this band. and yes i'll say it, i dont think this showed their true talents.

Less repetition, check out their fan favorite songs, Idioteque, the national anthem, creep, The bends (4 chords), Optimistic (4 chords w/ one run the whole song), dollars and cents (same bass line through the whole song), there are plenty of more examples.

Just because a song has repetition doesnt mean its not good. The not to pick on you but the in rainbows doesnt have much repetition. It is more accessible though. But on the article i really cant wait for this new album. it should be as good as all the other radiohead albums.
