Amidst rumors and vague announcements, guitarist Ed O'Brien has set the record straight.
In a recent interview with Nme.com, O'Brien stated the new release will be recorded this winter with producer Nigel Godrich.
"Typical Radiohead," he said. "We’re going into the studio in winter. It’s always miserable! When you’re in a studio in the countryside the music you make is definitely affected by what season it is."
The declaration of a new record is surprising as both
O'Brien and singer
Thom Yorke are busy with current projects.
O'Brien is scheduled to appear in a debate on "
Music's Survival In The 21st Century" where the guitarist will discuss topics such as compensation for artists with other musicians. Along with frequently appearing in news stories lately,
Yorke is still working on his experimental group with
Flea and others.
Since O'Brien stated seasons affect the type of music a band makes, it raises the question of whether Radiohead will be going for a softer tone this time around, especially when they will be heavily involved in the music world until it's time to start recording.
