Rancid isn't Pop-Punk... Pop-Punk = Yellowcard\Good Charlotte\Simple plan etc. RAncid is good old classic SoCal punk and they are not fake... who the hell are you guys to judge whether or not they have punk mentality? stop bashing modern punk.. dont only sit in the 80s.. there are tons of bands that are from the 80s that are still going.. like Bad Religion, NoFX, Ian MacKaye is still kicking around...

Can't wait for the new album personally. And for all you saying rancid ain't punk in bollocks, who says you have to be born in the 70's or whatever to be punk, this is probably some of the most punk we're gonna get now. And also if you don't think its punk and you don't like it then why are you reading and article about them?

I think it's going to be a fun listen like most rancid is. The real news to me is since when has Travis Barker been the drummer for the Aquabats?
POSTED: 11/29/2005 - 08:07 pm / quote |
billiethesquid :
Travis was drummer for The Aquabats before he joined Blink (which was just before the recording of Enema Of The State). I saw The Aquabats last month. They sure are great, but the fact that they're so old and fat kinda makes for a somewhat depressing spectacle...

Racnid Punk :
Rancid is the best band on earth. They are what keep punk alive. Any band that has anything to do with are also great. This includes The Transplants, The Distillers, Lars Frederickson and the Bastards and yes even Queens of the Stone Age. The list goes on. When you hear there music you should scream out in joy and go buy a copy of there CD, in fact buy 2 copies of the same CD just so you can say you have 2. This "fake" punk is bull. If you want your fake punk go back home and listen to your simple plan and Good Blink 41. If you still dont like Rancid at least they've been able to keep there own style and not give a shit of what the media has to say about them. BOO YA RANCID RULZ

Luke99999999999 :
Rancid's first self-titled EP and their subsequent 1993 album are two of the best punk records of all time. I think it's pretty stupid discussing who is "fake" or "real", when the only thing that matters is the music, and how commercial it is. Punk music started as an anti-establishment outcry, so pop-punk is a paradox in itself. Rancid rule, so **** anyone who says they're not.

oh boy...poseurs, mods, fake punk...wtf?!
some people should really stop livin in the 70's and 80's coz that kind of punk is in the past...face it...you cant find nowadays bands like the clash, sex pistols, sham 69, exploited or something like that...people use punk for money...so lame...thats why it aint punk it was before...
blah,blah,blah...
anyways...i consider that rancid is one of the less bands who still have some punk roots, coz this kids growed up with it in the their blood!
personally my fav album is the self-titled album. plus there are lots of non-album songs that kik ass!
and again like some one said before: if you dont like it just dont listen to it and dont give a **** about it and give a **** about your TRUE punk...it really cant be simpler than this ;]

For clarification's sake, here are the facts from someone who has studied the punk movement extensively:

Punk=Mid-70's to early 80's bands like the Clash, the Ramones, the Buzzcocks, etc. The Sex Pistols also had a huge impact on punk, but because of the Malcolm Mclaren influence they are considered poseurs by the most hardcore of punks.

Hardcore: throughout the 80's, bands like Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Bad Brains, and Minor Threat took punk music and made it harder, faster, more abrasive, and more offensive. These are, I suppose, what the "punkers" in this thread would consider true punk.

Punk Revival = Late 80's early 90's bands like Rancid, NOFX, Bad Religion, The Descendants, etc. After punk "died" at the end of the 80's, these bands tried to rekindle the flames and recapture the spirit of the original punk movement, with some success.

That is what the facts are, now here's what matters. It's all punk. Even more importantly, who the hell cares if it's punk or not, or even what exactly is the real definition of punk? Listen to what you like, for Pete's sake. If you limit yourself to only what is punk than you are missing out on a lot of great things. Here's what Jello had to say about it.

"Punk ain't no religious cult
Punk means thinking for yourself
You ain't hardcore ?coz you spike your hair"

There you have it from one of the hardest of hardcore punks, the Dead Kennedys.

Hardcore Revival: Bands like the Unseen, the Casualties, and early Death By Stereo. Same idea as punk revival, only these want the fury of the 80's american hardcore movement.

That is what the facts are, now here's what matters. It's all punk. Even more importantly, who the hell cares if it's punk or not, or even what exactly is the real definition of punk? Only in the "PUNK" scene do people actually say IM MORE PUNK THEN YOU, blah blah blah, look, there is no such thing as a real true punk, because always somone is going to say they are "fake" the only point that should be raised here is rancid have been doing their own thing, and rocking the crowed at every gig. every one just stop with this fake shit, being a punk isnt about being "more punk then you" its about being yourself about drinking with your mates, beer and bourbon. **** guys what would joe strummer say to you all. good job rancid, keep up the good work.

how many times has rancid been on mtv?

they arent fake.
theyre not "pop punk".

theyre just one of the more popular punk bands, and just because people know who they are, it doesnt mean theyre fake. theyve been around for 15 years, so they didnt jump on the bandwagon.

More to the point this news was released on the 28/11/2005 about a new Rancid Album soon, we're now in 2007 and still no album, anyone know when its actually gonna surface, i heard its meant to be sometime soon but doesnt really help. ...and out comes the wolves was deffinately a great album but personally i prefer life wont wait, thats a bloody awesome album even indestructable is a good album. I saw Rancid in Bristol back in Novemeber and i'm pretty sure they werent fake, at least they looked real enough to me and they seemed to be playing their instruments so F**K OFF and get a life alright, now i cant stand good charlotte or Simple plan or stuff like that but some people actually do, i remember when i wasabout 13 i heard Blink and Green Day and if it wasnt for bands like them i would never have got into Rancid, The Distillers, Social Distortion, AFI, Alkaline Trio etc. I believe every band deserves some credit because at leas thtey are doing what they want to be doing, unlike everyone who settles for a job in a McDonalds or summin because they havent got the drive to actually go out there and achieve their dreams. I'm actually ashamed to getting into this again it seems you can't stop it, and the thing is about 10 years ago when not that many people had heard of Rancid the people slagging them off now would have been the first to race down to their gigs, some people just cant accept that if a band gets big then they are obiously doing summin right, who cares how many people like their music it doesnt make them any less real, to me it only shows that there are actually a lot of people out there who have taste whether it be the same as yours or not.
