Red Hot Chili Peppers Announce New Album Plans

Red Hot Chili Peppers have announced plans for their new album.

The band, who are currently working on a follow-up to 2006's 'Stadium Arcadium', have revealed that a new album could be released by October 2010.

"We're gonna write for a while, it usually takes us a while," drummer Chad Smith told Clash Magazine, before speculating that a release date for the album would be "sometime next year, maybe this time [next year]".

Also asked if Flea's experience working with Thom Yorke might affect the band's new material, Smith said the bassist had given him a CD of electronic beats to inspire him but that, at the moment, there wasn't an explicit electronic direction.

"You never know. We've got songs with piano on them right now," he added.

In an August interview, Smith said the band were “ready” to return to the studio following their break.

As previously reported, Red Hot Chili Peppers are amongst the acts to make the shortlist for induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

"It's a real honor to be nominated in our first year of eligibility" said Chad. "Obviously the Hall of Fame has excellent musical taste."

Thanks for the report to Nme.com.

Sorry, no, the cover link and photo on this article are both from around Stadium Arcadium. But I am excited about new RHCP and hope to see some hype or new pictures to let us know this is legit.

Chad really does look like Will Ferrell. When he played with Chickenfoot on Bonan O'Crien he wore a shirt saying "I am not Will Ferrell" Haha. But, I don't know why people down Stadium Arcadium. That album is different yes, but nonetheless great. Here is how I rank the Chili's Albums.. Just an opinion so don't bite my head off when you don't agree..

1984 The Red Hot Chili Peppers - 5/10
1985 Freaky Styley - 3/10
1987 The Uplift Mofo Party Plan - 5/10
1989 Mothers Milk - 8/10
1991 Blood Sugar Sex Magik - 10/10
1995 One Hot Minute - 4/10
1999 Californication - 9.5/10
2002 By The Way - 8/10
2006 Stadium Arcadium - 8.5/10

Best band ever. I have been listening to them since I was 3. Heh. I do hope the new album goes back to its rap/Punk roots a little more than Stadium. Kinda like Can't stop or tell me baby.

I think the chili peppers should take there time and make another solid record like californication, last couple have had good singles but a lot of filler.

I hope this is an improvement on their previous album. Stadium Arcadium was a brilliant album musically but when I listen to it, I feel like I'm listening to some other band. I know bands like to experiment with new styles and such but I feel as though RHCP is beginning to lose everything I like about them. It's as though they are becoming "poppy" jesus freaks, spreading songs of love and happiness. What ever happened to the old days of singing about sex and stuff? Or did that go out the window the same day as the drugs? Believe me I'm glad they're clean, especially John although Niandra Lades was his best album.
Speaking of John, what are people's thoughts on The Empyrean? I've only listened to a few songs. My first impressions were that he sounds like he's trying to be Cat Stevens.

the b-sides to stadium, such as 'mercy mercy' and 'i'll be your domino', as well as 'tell me baby', 'turn it again', 'warlocks', and 'hump de bump' show that the chili peppers can still rock the funk - looking forward to hearing new stuff!

p.s. if anyone has a copy of a song by them from '86 called "set it straight" (it was in a movie called Tough Guys - youtube it) and wouldn't mind sending a link, that'd be really cool

yeah, really cool...
Those guys just don't care about how controversial and patchy their new album will be.
They can enclose 12different styles of music in there, which may not always be good, but at least they now have the ultimate freedom to do what they want

to be honest i was thinking the same thing until i realized that they used piano on BBSM and By the Way. im sure it wont be all piano but u never know. Chili peppers will give us something extraordinary nonetheless

Yea, and on BSSM. Chad does the piano, I'm pretty sure.

no that was john doing piano. if u watch the funky monks documentary of them recording BBSM, u can see john doin the piano on one of the songs..forgot which one it was though. if u havent seen it i would watch it, its all on youtube

hope they make a shorter album with more substance. Stadium Arcadium had lots of filler IMO, especially with the lyrics

My prediction is that this will be a darker album with an erratic overall rhythm and sound.

When you consider the backround of the members during the hiatus, we have John who made 'The Empyrean' and worked with Josh Klinghoffer where he really got his synth influence. Flea also worked on the Empyrean at least somewhat, the basslines he played were really fleas style. He also attended school for theoretical training and worked with Thom Yorke. Chad worked with Chickenfoot and probably will bring the majority of the older influence back of the 'in your face band' and Anthony has been sorta sitting around living life going in and out of relationships.

I'd predict it to sound closer and closer to Johns solo albums since 2000 but still keeping chili identity with Anthony speaking again about rather philosophical topics in his lyrics.

To whoever says that the last albums are poppy and mainstream...They aren't mainstream just because they are aging and have 'mellowed out'. Let them grow up, not embracing the maturity makes many bands tear at the seams over the years making great music and not embracing any new influence and keep releasing the same sound over and over.
