RHCP Prepare Double Album

"It's heavy, but it's emotionally heavy with lots of beautiful melodies," Anthony Kiedis told Q magazine this month. Red Hot Chili Peppers' new record, Stadium Arcadium, is rumored to be released around March or April, though with several online release calendars citing it to be May 8th in the UK and May 9th in the USA.

"We all contributed equally," Kiedis said. "That hasn't always been the case in the past." Hardcore fans may remember guitarist John Frusciante was pursuing melodies, synths, and new ways of making chord progressions before their last album (which had a mixed reception between both critiques and fans), By The Way.

Anthony Kiedis also told NME magazine that their next single would be "Dani California", taking the character from the song By the way. NME spelt it "Danni", but Anthony spelt it "Dani" with the original song; but either its mostly a mundane detail. This single will be about the character's downfall, and could be expected to be released before the next album.

The Peppers also have a DVD slated for January 31st, 2006 on amazon.co.uk's and play.com's release calendars, entitled "Red Hot Chili Peppers: Woodstock And Beyond". Play.com's description tells us it will be a DVD about their performance with past-RHCP guitarist Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction, Camp Freddy) at Woodstock 94, not current gutiarist John Frusciante's at 99. "And beyond" may also come into play.

In both Q and NME articles, Anthony spills about how they originally wanted to release 3 albums; but then realized that the 3rd would come out almost 2 years from the first and it wouldn't be as worthwhile. Stadium Arcadium will feature 25 songs (neither of the new songs from Live at Hyde Park will be on). Several of the new songs are circulating in bootleg circles, notably Tell Me Baby, Desecration Smile, Ready Made, and For The 21st Century.

The thing with bands like the chili peppers is they have a LARGE range of fans. They are a mediocre band in my opinion but because SO many people think that they are at least 'good' it can really distort things. They release so many singles and get so much radio and video play that it isn't much of a suprise that they have such mass appeal. Take Kanye West for example.. I'm sure you dont think much of him and his album isn't hailed as being genius or anything.. but i'm sure you hear about him all the time. He gets radio play and video play like crazy. Although he (unlike the chili peppers) isn't doing commercials for cell phone companies.

Frusciante is also a very, very good guitarist. He plays rather economically on the Pepper's studio albums as to not ruin the songs, but on their Live at Slane Castle DVD he really "wanks off" and shows his chops.

He and Flea have also recorded some songs with the Mars Volta on either Deloused or Frances, Flea even plays the trumpet in one of the songs.

I think it's pretty funny that some people in here call the Red Hot Chili Peppers "mediocre" or "overhyped". I pretty much do not see how, considering they are one of the three best bands (the other being Jane's Addiction and Tool) to really come around in the past 25 years. I like and respect other people's opinions, but I think people should confess they just do not like them because of the music they play (considering they tap in to just about every genre on the face of this earth and they do not believe in being rock purists, but music purists), and I think that's really the only thing. You cannot call them "overhyped" and "mediocre" because you're saying you can compare them to others, and you really can't. They're pretty much a band in their own world, too impossible to categorize and I think there is a real reason why so many people love this band -- because they're not your typical band and they don't mean to be your typical band.

Well I really don't know about that but I can honestly say I have alot of respect for the chilis. That does not mean, however; that I think they are anything above mediocre. I wasn't the one to say they were overhyped I do not think that I just simply think that they have mass appeal.

I do think that they have been one of the biggest (but not most influental) bands of the last 25 years. If there was a list, though; tool and janes addiction would be far from on it. (IMO)

RHCP are one of the few bands that have consistantly come out with solid albums over the years. their music is truly a reflection of their maturity that only comes with age and experience. if you look back at when RCHP first came out they were considered by many as flash in the pan band out to shock people (who can forget the infamous sockmen) but now look at how far they've come. not to say that they can't still rock our socks off (no pun intended), but they've gone from being viewed as a joke band to a very influential band. if you ask anyone about bands that defined the 90's i bet you that 9 out 10 will mention RCHP.

personally i'm very excited to see where this next RCHP album will go musically. as a music lover i enjoy when bands take risks and do something different. sometimes too much of the same thing can definately be bad.

aside from that, RCHP is the most talented band i've ever seen/heard and AH GOD 25 songs i'm gonna have a heart attack when this comes out. BUT i still think By The Way's gonna be hard to top. they can pull it off, though.

The only slight problem about the new album is that it's gonna be sooo huge that the media's gonna kill it. like, overplay songs on the radio, playing the music videos and shit on MTV... i honestly think that's the worst thing that can happen. that kills the music. i'd like it better if it wasn't uber popular, which it's gonna be. give the true fans what they want but SAVE IT FROM THE MEDIA!

as for the heavier stuff that's supposed to reveal itself, that's gonna be interesting. these guys have been through alot and hopefully their experiance is gonna make their music better than it already is... and it already IS amazing.

the only issue i have with the new album coming out is that the media is gonna go nuts. some people could see that as a good thing, but i don't. it's gonna be overplayed songs on the radio, and countless music videos on MTV. i'm personally not excited for that. putting a song on the radio and playing it over and over is gonna eventually make people sick of it. that's the last thing i want to happen to ANYTHING rhcp puts out. that's not the kind of music it was intended to be.

no dissing is going to come from me, just a few important points.

1) RHCP is NOT the most talented band today. If you look into the progressive scene you will find many bands with MUCH more talent than RHCP. Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, The Flower Kings, Pain of Salvation, TransAtlantic, Liquid Tension Experiment, hell if you look into shred bands like the Steve Vai band you will see that Steve Vai's talent is much greater than that of RHCP.

2) Their songs and lyrics are bland and repetitive. Californication, Other Side, and Scar Tissue all sound alike and on Other Side, the lyric "I gotta take it on the other side" is said like 234123412351234234 times and gets old fast.

chase mate. i just gotta say i respect your opinion, but in my opinion, rhcp seem to be one of the only bands which appeals to purists and mainstream fans alike. frusciante writes minimalist riffs that are listenable and likeable by everyone, which although it is obvious vai would beat john in a one on one guitar battle or wotsit, i think jf's music is far more accecessible.

the thing about the lyrics is rubbish- older stuff was about 5 verses long, basically just designed for anthony to rap over a popping bass and hillels crazy funk lines. it was funky dancy music that was like a musical form of sex almost, i dunno.

i agree with you on point 3 though...i think the peppers are pretty individual
