Though popular consensus has it that Ryan Adams is best off sticking to the alt-country genre of which he is master, he continues not to give a damn. Instead he’s used his Facebook page to announce the formal release of a metal album, Orion, later this month.
In March, Adams trumpeted the release via his Twitter page as "my most legit metal record," but now claims: "I am not saying it’s 'metal' anymore — just really, really fast country with screaming and crap."
One track from the album, "
Electro-Snake" has already been previewed and can be heard in the
YouTube video.
Of the song, Adams says, "Due to the overwhelming plea from the heavy metal community to go easy on them I will officially apologize for the sheer metalness of 'Electro-Snake.'"
Adams has unofficially released metal tracks on his website for a number of years, but Orion is to be the first all-metal album for the songwriter whose hits have included "Come Pick Me Up" and "New York, New York."
Thanks for the report to Gibson.com.
