Senses Fail attributes their ability to survive in the current music industry to the band’s overcoming their fair share of adversity over the years. For Senses Fail, adversity has not only been, well, adverse, but also what the band has called "an empowering journey of self-discovery". The group is set to confidently release an album that represents Senses Fail at the peak of their musical prowess. The Fire, as the album is known, is due for release on the 26th of October 2010.
The new album is acknowledged to include some of Senses Fail’s most dangerous work yet, encompassing everything from introspective, sincere lyrics to high energy guitar riffs that we all expect. The band will continue in their post-hardcore direction, but in some respects hope to have transcended that genre.
Produced by Brian McTernan (Thrice, Circa Survive, Cave In), the average fan might be forgiven for questioning whether the band members have truly challenged themselves, considering their familiarity with McTernan.
“There’s no bullshit [...]” says vocalist, James Nielsen and it’s hard to disagree with him at face value, as he testifies to the live drums and lack of samples on The Fire. The result is said to be an album of intensity that is foreign to most bands at this stage of their career. Formed in 2001, the group has since sold in excess of 850,000 catalogue sales.
The band has experienced several line-up changes, a legal battle of bad blood with an ex-band member, and has even hinted at funding difficulties brought on by the recession. Nielsen attributes the adversity to walking through fire, alluded to in the album title.
