They may be best known for rockin’ hard, but Sevendust are about to show fans their soft side. This spring the band will release Southside Double-Wide Acoustic Live, a CD/DVD set of acoustic tracks.
Following in the shoes of Godsmack and, er, Bon Jovi, Sevendust have toned down a selection of their hits, including "Xmas Day," "Too Close To Hate" and a cover of Johnny Cash’s cover of Nine Inch Nails’ "Hurt." The disc was recorded last fall when Sevendust played a series of acoustic shows in promotion of their most recent album, Seasons.
Sevendust’s acoustic leanings don’t come as a huge surprise despite their loudness, the band have always claimed to be as much about the songs as they are about the volume. "Melody is a very big part of the metal scene and I think it's something we all have to get back to," singer
Lajon Witherspoon told
ChartAttack’s
Tim Melton back in December of 2001. "You know, it's cool to bark and to keep yellin' and screamin', but if you continue to paint the same picture, the scene is gonna go, where it was before where no one could figure out what the fuck was going on everything disappeared."
The CD/DVD was recorded in Athens, Georgia and will be packaged with bonuses that’ll make the band’s biggest fans swoon. The limited edition set will come with 20 collector postcards, a big fat booklet full of photos, a Sevendust guitar pick and more. Look for it in stores on May 11.
