Sex Pistols Could Record New Album In 2009

Sex Pistols' bassist Glen Matlock has said his band are considering record a new album.

The punk icon told The Quietus that while reports that they were recording new material in the summer were wide of the mark, there is a possibility the punk band could hit the studio in 2009.

"The Sex Pistols? We've done our bit this year…we'll meet again in the new year and see what we want to do," he explained.

"We were not recording a new album - I think that journalists are making it up, but you can never say never," he added.

"We all got ideas between us. It's a double-edged sword if you do it not good as the original, and if you don't do it people want to know why - but it's up to us. We are the masters of our own destiny."

Thanks for the report to Nme.com.

There was time and a place for the pistols and it isn't now. What are they going to sing about, pension funds?

I never liked the Sex Pistols. I always thought they were a terrible band, but people like you two are the reason punk rock is dying.

I hate how it says HIS band when he wasn't even an original member.

I wouldn't mind a new album, as long as its good. If its not good then it should never see the light of day, they don't need to ruin themselves even more by releasing a bad album.

sorry mate, but he helped write all the original tunes, sid couldn't even play bass.

having said that a new album would be fail. all the young kids would call it poser punk because it's not "NOFX" or "Bad Religion". Never mind the bollocks was pure punk in 1970's and they became infamous for only making one record, i think they should stick with that legacy.

I doubt that the Pistols of today could live up to the standard they set with Never Mind the Bollocks.

if the pistols relased an album as geezers, it would tarnish their legacy of releasing one album and changing the world. Be content that you did nevermind the bollocks, and leave it at that, do a few shows if you want, but please, please, don't make another album.

I Think Sid wanted to and was trying to learn bass, but he was screwed up on heroin and stuff so yeah.
On the album, i think the guitarist played the bass, but yeah, originally glenn matlock helped compose the songs.

Matlock wrote most of the music. Rotten wrote the lyrics. Vicious was just an image. He was certainly not musically talented and his legacy is simply a druggie who was once in a rock and roll band that changed the course of music and peoples lives forever.

Anyway, back to the subject of a reunion album. I'd give it a listen out of curiosity, but i'm not one for reunions and certainly not for a band like the pistols who like people have already mentioned, belong to a different era. Its difficult to shock people now and they wont have an impact on society or musical culture as they once did so why tarnish their own legacy now? Leave it as it is.

i would probably buy it, but most likely it would suck. just look at a bunch of the other bands from way back then that only released albums back then, and try to make a comeback in the present.

hmm...people are saying that the youth of today wouldn't like a new album by Sex Pistols. I'm 16 now, and i seriously think i would be more excited by that than any other release. I'm a huge fan of the original Punk. more so than the Punk around today such as NOFX, Rancid etc. the golden age of Punk was with the Sex Pistols, The Clash, Ramones, Stranglers, The Only Ones, Buzzcocks, Generation X etc.

WastedTele wrote on 10/07/2009 - 03:16 pm / quote |
also i don't think Punk ever died, it just recieved less media coverage
