Shawn Crahan Confirms Slipknot Will Record Another Album

Slipknot percussionist Shawn Crahan has confirmed that the band have plans to record another studio album.

The band, and in particular frontman Corey Taylor, have been non-committal about the prospect of the band recording a follow-up to their 2008 album "All Hope Is Gone" after the death of bassist Paul Gray in 2010, but Crahan has now said it will happen.

Crahan, who released an album as part of side project The Black Dots Of Death earlier this year, said that whenever the band's fifth album is recorded, he believes it will be sonically similar to their second LP "Iowa".

Asked by Kerrang! about the band's future plans, Crahan replied: "There's plans [to make another record] but that's a way off. No-one will push it, because it's going to be a big one. It'll be closer to 'Iowa', but it'll be sadder and crazier. And really thought provoking, it could even be conceptual".

He continued:

"We're still taking some time to reflect on our brother [Gray]. Everybody needs to be collecting thoughts so they can get it out and no-one has really had time to collect thoughts yet. But we're the fucking 'Knot. And when we come out, you'll know your band is done."

Slipknot release a 10th anniversary edition of their 2001 album "Iowa" on October 31.

And anyways just think. I'm VERY sure Corey is deeply sadened by the death of Paul Gray (R.I.P) so Corey will definately do what Paul would've wanted. Don't you think that Paul would've wanted for the band not to consider breaking up, but to actualy become closer and carry on together "'till we die". I actually agree with this, I understand that everybody has different ways with dealing with the death of a loved one. Sometimes it can go on for years, or even forever, but stop posting the news of the same comments over and over again. Just say "we will take some time off to mourn for our brother" and leave it at that. When you are over it and are finally ready to make a true statement, then post it up to the press.

I hate slipknot and everything about them, but i can see how people will get psyched about this. not flaming, just acknowledging that the band isnt one of my favoites, but alot of people like them. this is how people can say their opinions without being a douche about it and respect others opinions. some people dont like some of my favorite bands, and i dont like their bands, but i see mutual appreciation for all types of music. everyone, please follow the ways of the likes of me, everyone in the heavy metal community can enjoy music without flaming other subgenres. Except James writes alot of songs for Metallica, and all Corey does is sing. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't like if Corey left, but it wouldn't destroy Slipknot. AC/DC did it, Black Sabbath did it, Iron Maiden did it (for a little while at least)

Corey also writes the lyrics. He has a unique voice and a unique style of writing that nobody can imitate. They've already lost Paul (R.I.P) who played a huge part in writing the music. If they were to lose Corey, who is the voice and mind behind Slipknot, it just wouldn't be the same anymore. It'll never be the same since Paul has passed, but without Corey, it's just not Slipknot to me.

They shouldn't be taking a break they should be using there current situation as a motivation to write more music because whenever Slipknot get's more popular it's a good thing for all metal bands on general. If you've ever seen Stone Sour live recently, you'd know that he can scream just as well as he could when Slipknot started. He actually screams more (and better) on Stone Sour's 3rd album than on Slipknot's 3rd.

Idk man, I love Slipknot, but over the years they've been really arrogant by making it clear that "No one else can do what we do, I defy anyone to try. They wouldn't last 5 minutes." That's almost a word for word quote from Joey after the first album. Also, no Corey = no Slipknot. I'm sorry, I never say that about bands, but in this case it is true. So we'll have to wait and see. So if Corey said he never confirmed this, it's just more of trying to guilt him into it.

One more (solid) album then they can stop if they wish, which seems to be a very likely possibility, and i think many of us (including me) would be happy with that. If you've ever seen Stone Sour live recently, you'd know that he can scream just as well as he could when Slipknot started. He actually screams more (and better) on Stone Sour's 3rd album than on Slipknot's 3rd.

I hope you aren't saying that Audio Secrecy had better screams than Vol. 3. Watch some Slipknot videos from 2011.

I agree. Chorus to Heretic Anthem, anyone? Besides, I actually read somewhere that most of the lead work from All Hope Is Gone was based off all the lead stuff that was edited out of Iowa.

The chorus to Heretic Anthem was just some chromatic stuff. Not that difficult lol.
