Slash's Solo Record 'Should Be Done Next Month'

Slash's Solo Record 'Should Be Done Next Month'

Guitarist Slash, formerly of Guns N’ Roses and current guitarist for Velvet Revolver, has been teasing fans about a solo record for some time now and it appears he’s finally about to finish it.

The guitarist posted an update on his MySpace to let fans know how things are shaping up in the studio. He writes, "Hey all, what's happening? Everything's good on this end. It has been a pretty productive summer so far. My record should be done next month & the recording has gone smoothly & sounds fucking great."

"[Former Guns N’ Roses drummer] Steven Adler played on the 1st of the last 3 tracks yesterday, along with [Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist] Flea on bass. The song kicks ass & the drums & bass sound so recognizable & sound so fucking good," he adds. "Steven is staying clean, which is great, Flea is just amazing, period. Steven, Flea & I all lived & met in the same neighborhood in West Hollywood back in the day. Yesterday, we had a great time reminiscing about when we all 1st started playing Rock & Roll & how school didn't fit into the plan, we were like 15. Flea was the 1st one to join an ‘established’ band called "Anthem," I remember being envious. I had a band called ‘Tidus Sloan’ but we didn't have a singer. Sound familiar? Steven & I didn't really have a band together until a few years later when we joined [Motley Crue bassist] Nikki Sixx's old band "London" after Izzy [Stradlin, former Guns N’ Roses guitarist] left. Which, incidentally, was very short lived."

He continues, "Izzy came down & played on a track a couple weeks ago, that sounds great too. It was good to see him, it's been awhile. Our guitars together really do have a sound all their own. Besides having some friends of Eric Valentine's come down from Northern California & play cello & violin on a track, I haven't had any other guest musicians so far. Having Flea, Steven & Izzy play has been a real gas. There might be a couple more surprise musicians on this record I think."

Slash recently performed his first solo show at the Quart Festival in Norway on June 30. His band included the likes of John 5 on guitar and Jason Bonham on drums and included guest appearances by Ozzy Osbourne, Fergie, and Ronnie Wood. Ozzy, Fergie, and Ronnie have all been confirmed to be making appearances on the album.

Report by David Lowe-Bianco.

the two of them are really good friends i think... Slash has appeared in some of her live shows and they played Sweet Child O Mine. Granted, he could've done better with a female voice, but this album is still gonna kick ass.

Slash is a wonderful human being with a heart of gold, and I expect this album will be a thing of greatness. I am happy to see that Slash has included some of the boys from back in the glory days of the late 1980's when G n' R were the most dangerous band in the world. I know that Slash has written a song about his life and I really like the emotion in some of his playing and this makes me wet. Grand.

Check Avenged Sevefold's MySpace - singer M. Shadows says he's going to be appearing on the album.

This is the exact quote: "Since we've been home I've been working on a song with Slash for his solo album. It's a killer track and he plays some of the most technical stuff I've ever heard from him.
But since it's his record and not mine, more updates will have to come from him"

Looking forwad to the album. I'm surprised there aren't a bunch of nay-sayers and bashers on here (like any time Kirk Hammett gets mentioned)

He should just stay with Izzy permanently. Izzy was the best part of GNR.

Wow, this is really cool. But, does anyone know who's doing the majority of the vocals? I know Ozzy and Fergie are in, but anyone know who else? Not idiot Axl for sure. I've also hear comments that Slash's skills are overrated, i tend to slightly disagree. Any guitar great would comment on Slash's overall tone and ease at which he plays great licks and soaring solos, it's not so much what he plays, it's how he plays and the sound he has created that is so original. Just listen to Chinese Democracy (if you can bare it), they are totally trying to rip off Slash's tone. Even he would admit that he couldn't write riffs like he once did, but then again, who could? That's why he's considered so great, and, well, he is. Don't forget that it's nice to see a good honest musician still working hard on making good records. See y'all in Milwaukee if he shows up there!

Could he be talking about Axl?

You're kidding right? He hates Axl as much as Axl hates him. I wish they would play together, but it will NEVER happen.

He should just stay with Izzy permanently. Izzy was the best part of GNR.

Slash is amazing.

Guns N Roses was amazing with him.

god i jizz my pants every time i listen to old GNR.

Appetite for Destruction is just pure SEX. How could an album be so perfect?

Careful what you wish for.
Remember when KISS took off the makeup?

I don't think he was saying that Izzy was the standout. Axl and Slash obviously played that role. But Izzy was a much bigger part of their sound than many people realize. Appetite for Destruction is one of the best rock albums out there, and it never would have been if not for Izzy's contribution. It also wouldn't have been if not for any one of the other guys, either. The original GNR was one of the greatest rock bands ever. Too bad they only put out one album.

boston1992 :
cant wait, slash is the reason i picked up a guitar. though i think itll get set back a little, but not like axel did. and as for everyone who sais he cant riff anymore, or his solos arent good anymore, you guys obviously havent taken the time to actually listen to his playing.

same here i cant wait to here this its probably gonna be pretty awesome
