Slipknot Frontman: 'At Least' Two Years Till New Album

Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor has said fans will have to wait at least two years before hearing a new album from the nine-piece Iowa outfit, according to Blabbermouth.net.

In an inteview with Kerrang Radio, broadcasting out of Birmingham, U.K., Taylor said he was currently concentrating on his side project Stone Sour (also featuring Slipknot guitarist Jim Root) ? but that some of the other members were already getting together and "messing around on stuff."

Taylor did, however, say they were planning something a real "comeback" when the album is released.

"I want to go full-on again ? I wanna do some melodic stuff, but I wanna go in your face again and show people what it's all about," he said.

Slipknot is currently working on its next DVD release, the follow-up to its 2002 DVD, "Disasterpieces".

"It's going to be different than our last one," guitarist Mick Thomson recently told Bilboard.com. "Our last one mostly focused on the concert, and this one is going to have a lot more personal stuff on it. You get to see more stupid shit [laughs]. There'll be some music and stuff, but you're getting to see what our days our like. It should be a lot more fun."

I hate people that jus diss slipknot saying 'they're not metal'. Every generation of kids and metallers had bands that got them in to that genre. Slayer, Maiden, Megadeth, Slipknot to name a few. These bands are the ones that don't jus fade out, they still go on. I know if it wasn't for slipknot i wouldn't be the metal fan i am now. I got into them from their first album, and from that i've followed their music and the genre as a whole. I'm pretty sure i'm not the only person that grew up with slipknot's music. 2 years is a long wait, but they deliver good everytime.

1. Drummer groups are different-a rock band shouldn't need that many drummers.

2. "Percussionist" is a term for "person who doesn't contribute anything useful to the band, because they already have a drummer." I've heard Slipknot's music, I don't hear the influence on the sound that the "percussionists" have.

3. Slipknot have gotten many kids into boring, nu-metal bullshit, when maybe they would have gotten into good music. Very few Slipknot fans get into real metal, and when they do, they either don't take it seriously, or they leave Slipknot and the other nu-metal crap behind.

They really only have, about 4-5 people in their band, actually making sound.

Thats their 2 guitarists, vocals, drummer, and maybe bassist. They can easily kick out those other 4 members, who arent doing anything.

To me, Slipknot is more of a monster band, like Kiss. They dont really have alot of talent, but they know how to make a show, and thats what they do.

The only talent in Slipknot is Mike (I think thats one of thier guitarists name), and maybe Joey. Alot of people think Joey is good, but really he doesnt have alot.

Yes he can play double bass, but what band who is in the "Metal" genre cant. Thats the only thing hes got. (Also, I have seen his "Drum Solo's", and I wasnt impressed at all)

Alot of people think hes good because he can play upside down. Its not like hes hanging from the ceiling or anything, its all for show.

All of there songs are the drummer doing double bass, the bass following the guitars, and the guitars just thrashing away with powercords. There isnt alot of skill in the band, but everyone thinks there is, because they dont bother to listen to other music.

I agree with you that he's ok, and maybe even good. i'll tell u one thing though, i saw him do a drum solo one time, and it was rather unimpressive. it was just straight double bass for like 5 whole minutes with some tom rolls over it. not bad, but not "elite." and towards the end, his not-really-that-fast-in-t
he-first-place double bass started to slow down and get a little jumbled. i mean, straight double bass for a metal drummer is like power chords to the guitarist. you gotta have that down!! not very impressive, but i'll agree that he's passable.

One their guitarist has the worst tone I have heard(I watched some weird show with him playing)and was only a medicore player. From what I heard they do put on decent show. Calling Joey or Mick untalented is nothing short of ignorant. Neither of them are world class musicians, but both most definitely lie between competent and very good. Saying drummers like Danny Carey or Jimmy Chamberlin are better pretty much applies to any drummer you could encounter, they are awesome players. And by the way, polyrhythms are hardly all you need to see to declare a drummer good, there are fairly easy polyrhythms you can do.

Slipknot have not ruined metal or some stupid shit either, just be happy they're not another paint by numbers nu-metal band like Seether or something. Despite constant 'lolz, not real metal' abuse, Slipknot are still constantly changing their sound at risk of alienating fans. That takes balls, so at least give them credit for that.

Having said all this, I really don't like them and couldn't care less about a new album in 2 years. I'm just not an ignorant fool who tries to act tough or spout inaccurate info on the internet. Mike Portnoy rapes Joey Jordison. Mike may have a big kit, but he uses every last piece of it in Dream Theater's/LTE's material. Joey, while a good drummer, is very overrated.

I agree with Submerged, even though I personally like Slipknot. Mick and Joey can't really "suck" at guitar and drums if they're in a successful band on their 5th album and have a huge fanbase, which probably include people who can recognize good guitarists and drummers.
Oh and for those who said they can't hear the percussion, listen to Vol.3. It's everywhere, you can't miss it. Listen to The Blister Exists, the solo in the middle is Shawn and Chris on percussion.

Subliminal Verses is a great album and hopefully they do something like it this time. You can tell Slipknots sound is evolving with every album they come out with.

To put my input on the "3 drummer" arguement, this is what I have to say: Joey Jordison is the ACTUAL drummer, while the others are percussionists there for atmosphere, much like the samples and turntables. It's there to add atmosphere, not keep a beat

Personally Slipknots music to me is a "meh".

joey is amazing, a tad overrated, but amazing. mike portenoy is a good bit better than joey, but they are both some of the best. and to those who say the percussionists don't contribute on the albums? they don't. they're pretty much only used in concerts.

my jaw has physically dropped at how the lead guitarist plays. he is definitely one of the best guitarists there is or was. if he were to release a solo album, it would be a force to be reckoned with.

corey has an amazing voice, you try to do that for years and years and still be able to sing as well as he can on vol. 3.

and they are not a ripoff of mushroomhead, that's been put to rest years ago.

Well, I'll have to say, Slipknot is one of the bands that got me into the more heavier stuff. But since then I have moved on, into more hardcore stuff like Throwdown and Norma Jean, Underoath, stuff like that. And now Slipknot is one of those bands I listen to about once a month. Maybe less, just whenever one of their songs get stuck in my head. Then I usually only listen to Vermilion pt 2.

An orgy of "ridiculous drop-tuned guitars" would mean every member used the guitar, while in fact, there are only two guitarists. And they have 9 members for a reason. A lot of their songs use the percussionists and the DJ, some prime examples of them are on Vol3. I think all you haters should calm down, and at least try to get some good arguments for your statements. And the fans should also calm down. I'm a fan of them myself, and I think they're very good at what they do, and they have made a lot of awesome songs. I still listen to Slipknot now, but I also listen to a lot of Death Metal, Power Metal, any sort of metal. I still enjoy Slipknot and every other band I listen to, and I've been into music for three years now, and I immediately started with metal, so I've been around :

I agree to this. Even though I still do listen to Slipknot, it was bands like Slipknot and Mudvayne that brought me to the metal world. Then I started lisenening to what many of you consider "true metal bands" like Dark Tranquillity, CoB, CoF, and my all time faovirte, Opeth! So if it werent for the bands that yall diss for being "not true metal" (which i dont agree with) I wouldnt be listening to Opeth and such.

And also, I hope its like Vol 3 cause its their best album.

You dumbasses make me sick. not (sic). sick. you people come off as 12 year old prepubescent girls. you are the reason people say most people who listen to slipknot are little kids. granted, there might possibly exist some intelligent slipknot fans. but there is at least 8 for every 1 smart listener. and also granted, slipknot is not so talented. it doesnt matter that mick, paul, joey, etc. are more talented than they play in the band when they wont use their talent in the songs. partly i say the one to blame is corey taylor, but i wont get into those reasons because id never hear the end of it. another big reason is elitists because slipknot is nu metal. but that reason has been covered by other people already. and the subliminal verses. can anyone else say "RADIO BAND?" another of the many reasons. ok, im done pissing off the "hxc maggots" who might just pwn me. but before i go let me say one thing. i listen to slipknot. i think their great. one of my favorite bands even.
