No James, No Dice. This CD won't be nearly as good as any of their others, only 2 of the original 4 members are working on it. We've seen from the "new" Korn that losing a key member ruins your band and your future...but I guess we'll see.

Pink Floyd lost Syd Barrett and had more success. John Cale left The Velvet Underground and they had more success (at the time anyway.) Belle and Sebastian lost Isobel Campbell and they're still going strong, so you can't say that the Pumpkins are totally done. Korn sucked from the beginning anyway.

I'm kinda sick about everyone claiming James is some important factor in the Pumpkins. Sure, he he may have added a few riffs here and there, some atmospheric stuff, but it's nothing the Corgan can't handle alone. I'm also sick of people claiming the band changed after D'arcy left... the band changed cause Corgan tried to change the Pumpkin's image and style HIMSELF. D'arcy was never a key factor in anything besides image. If the new album isn't what people expect it to be, don't blame it on the lack of James or D'arcy, at least blame it on Corgan and give credit soley where it's due. The only person that can revert the Pumpkins back to what it was is Corgan and Chamberlin.

You do realize that the two others bareley played on the older Smashing Pumpkins albums. It's pretty much always been Billy and Jimmy.

Sounds tight

^Uh I'm pretty sure that BC and Chamberlin were basically the only ones working on Siamese Dream.

What's this a reference to?

Also, I've heard that James Iha is, in fact, considering hopping back on board with the project.

PS - For all of you who dont know, Jimmy Chamberlin and Jonathan Melvoin both overdosed on heroin on July 12, 1996. Melvoin died and Chamberlin was arrested and subsequently fired from the band. It was a devastating blow to an outstanding band that was in the middle of touring and doing very well.

I_Dont_Know :
the pumpkins chord is the eleventh fret octave with a low e hanging over it, every song that incorporated that, or was made in the time of the constant use of that, was an amazing song. (they dropped it during adore)

PS: it actually is known as the pumpkins chord.

PPS: guy referring to melvoin, the sitting on your ass comment, it's not like he made him overdose. I don't think they were friends.

Billy Corgan has always been the heart and soul of this band. Iha was a good guitarist, but not integral to this band.

I believe a few months earlier Corgan had mentioned the new album was returning more to earlier rock roots. Friggin' awesome. \m/

Pumpkins4Life :
they really need James to come back for it to have the real smashing pumpkins feel. As good as Billy and Jimmy are they just cant go it alone. And as much as i admire Billy i think he needs D'arcy to tell him he's full of sh*t every once and a while. Cuz Billy and Jimmy will want to make some eccentric concept album and D'arcy and James will just be like f*ck yourself lets just go out and rock. It won't really work with just half the equation.

To add to what the other guy said: Ac/DC (who I;ve never liked much) enjoyed more success after the death of their original singer.
Metallica lost Cliff Burton (and turned out not quite as good, but it was a while before they went totally sh*t).
RHCP lost their original drummer and guitarist and went on to HUGE success, and got a lot better.
Probably some other bands did similar things, even though I can;t think of anymore. Point is, some bands work as a unit, and the members can't function alone, others works as a collective and so their members can. There's no cast iron law about it.

Oh, come on man. You do realise that Billy Corgan pretty much re-recorded the whole bands parts himself on Siamese Dream, right? What you hear there is 90& Billy and Jimmy. Iha is a fine musician, but his songwriting input was minimal.

I swear it's fashionable to like the "other" members of bands these days. You're just not cool unless your favourite musician is the one nobody ever saw in the bamd.

Lunartick :
All I can say is, let's hope this is as far away from the electronica stuff they were dabbling in for the last 2 albums (not counting Machina II) as possible. Woo for 90s Alt Rock in 2006/07.

And while it's true that D'Arcy and James aren't going to have an effect on the sound in the studio, it IS better for them to be on stage with Billy and Jimmy (especially James). I really hope they come back, although they must be really pissed at Billy to hold out on this for so long (but I suppose James is probably busy with some of his other projects too).

people always say shit about Metallica and when they lost there bassist cliff they didn't do verywell together. are you kidding me. musically they have emense talent and will write great music with who ever is with them or not. I'm sick of people saying that Metallica's Load and ReLoad, and Garage days suck. Musically they are great albums, so if you only like one genre of music then you abviously no nothing about music to begin with.
