Smashing Pumpkins: 'Zeitgeist' Track Listing Unveiled

Smashing Pumpkins have unveiled the news fans have been eagerly awaiting to hear - the release date and track listing for their comeback album, Zeitgeist.

The album is the first for the band since reforming officially last year and is also their first full-length record since 2000's Machina (excluding the freely distributed Machine II album).

Produced by Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin, Zeitgeist will not include any contribution from original member James Iha and it's also unclear as to whether bassist D'arcy Wretzky makes any appearance.

Smashing Pumpkins deliver the record on their new home of Reprise Records on July 7th - halfway through their Summer tour.

Not too impressed with the song titles I have to say. I liked when Billy came up with slightly bizarre, slightly mis-spelled titles that didn't really have anything to do with the songs. These may have nothing to do with the songs too but they do sound a bit cliche. But I'm sure the music will be awesome.

Billy did the majority of the writing, although Iha has a pretty unique style that helped to round out the hole sound...

Listen to Siamese Dream - that is Billy Corgan playing every guitar and bass track, basically everything but drums. Note to people who don't know: James Iha DID NOT PLAY LEAD GUITAR. Billy did. And D'arcy was just a crappy bass player Corgan hired so he could boss her around. You only need Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin to make a Smashing Pumpkins record, so hopefully this will be a return to form.

This looks pretty cool. I never really understood why they felt the need to give you the track listing though. I mean what does that do for you? It doesnt tell you much about what the album is going to sound like. Sucks that Iha isnt on though.

i noticed alot of time live billy would be ripping the solos and singing while james would simply play some chords and occasionally take a solo... and billy did write practically everything (soma was pure ****ing genius btw)

I second the motion. Billy's unbelievable, and transcendent, playing on the Pumpkins albums is what got me into guitar in the first place. My dad's been blasting Hendrix since I was a kid, but I wasn't able to appreciate Hendrix till I picked up the guitar myself, and I thank Billy for that.
