Social Distortion are currently taking a break from touring and appear to be back in the studio working on their highly anticipated follow-up to 2004's "Sex, Love And Rock 'n' Roll", according to Punkbands.com. No further information about this is currently available. It will be the band's first album not featuring their longtime bassist John Maurer, who left just before the release of the last Social D album, since their 1982 debut album "Mommy's Little Monster". His replacement is Brent Harding, who was part of Mike Ness' solo project.
"
Sex, Love And Rock 'n' Roll" marks the band's first studio recording since 1996's "
White Light, White Heat, White Trash". It is also their first release with drummer Charlie Quintana and guitarist Jonny "2 Bags" Wickersham, who is the replacement of original guitarist Dennis Dannell, who succumbed to a brain aneurysm in 2000 while the band was already planning their follow-up to "White Light, White Heat, White Trash".
It has been confirmed that the new album will likely include the tracks they have performed at various live shows, "I Won't Run No More", "Diamonds In The Rough", "Bakersfield" and "Fall Behind". Social Distortion have once played the song "I Won't Run No More" on one of their reunion shows in 2000-2001. The rest of the songs were played at recent live shows. "I love to just bring the new songs out before they're even finished sometimes because I'm exited about it," frontman Mike Ness explains.
In related news, Ness promised that the new album would not have another eight year delay. He said: "No, it won't be eight years. We're really writing a lot right now and I think it's a great time to do another record."
The still-untitled follow-up to "Sex, Love And Rock 'n' Roll" is scheduled to be released sometime in 2007 via TimeBomb Recordings. An official title and release date for the album are yet to be confirmed.
