Soundgarden have announced the title of their forthcoming album "King Animal", which is pegged for a release this fall.
It's their first full-length release since "Down On The Upside" in 1996. A tear video previewing a new song "Worse Dreams" can be seen below.
Soundgarden reformed in 2010 after more than a decade apart, having split in 1997 due to ongoing tension between members. Their first post-reunion release was the exclusive song "Live To Rise" for "The Avengers" soundtrack this year.
Meanwhile, Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan recently claimed that Soundgarden and other reforming acts had only reformed to make money — shortly after his own reformed band had released a new album "Oceania".
"When Soundgarden came back and they just played their old songs, great," said Corgan. "I was a fan of Soundgarden, but call it for what it is. They’re just out there to have one more round at the till; same with Pavement and these other bands."

As much as I LOVE the Pumpkins if anyone is back in it for money it's Billy. Zwan and his other side projects failed so he got Jimmy and made Zeitgeist. Oh, he sold some albums, lets get a whole new band and put a girl as a bassist just like when we had Darcy. Come on Billy, give up the shenanigans
Right, because it's such a commercial move to play a new 45 minutes long psychedelic song on your reunion tour... what a cashgrab Corgan is. Seriously, on their 2007 tour DVD, you can see the audience leaving as they realize they're not going to get a greatest hits concert.
The other bassists who have been in the band after Darcy don't even look like her at all.
I agree, I dont think Billy revived the Pumpkins moniker purely for money. I think he did it to re-inflate his massive ego, and so it would be easier for him to take pot shots at other acts.
To people bashing Billy Corgan here: yeah, he sometimes is an idiot, but he did not revived The Smashing Pumpkins just for the money. If you check out some of his interviews (let me say, interviews from before the band's breakup in 2000), he says that he just feels like Smashing Pumpkins is a part of him many times and no other band he can possibly be in fits him like the Pumpkins... also, really? Does not the "Teargarden By Kaleidyscope" project rings a bell? He's giving songs from the project for free download... that's not exactly my definition of money grubbing... still, I agree that he acted like an idiot by pointing his finger at Soundgarden.
Totally agree, but I think Billy Corgan understand its all about getting airplay and selling concert tickets. Not trying to get their money's worth out of recorded music.
Pearl Jam is supposedly going to tour with them. Iv'e also heard Temple of the Dog is reuniting. If AiC is there too... Concert of a lifetime. I won't miss this for anything, even if it is just SG (favorite band).
Well... The sexiness of Mr. Cornell isn't really that important to me. But Soundgarden is a fantastic band. So is Alice in Chains. If Pearl Jam were to join the party, I could die happy.
I was also hoping that there would be a Danzig reunion with the original lineup of Glenn Danzig, John Christ, Eerie Von and Chuck Biscuits. A new album and tour with that lineup would be cool too.
That'll definitely never happen. Axl's no show at the RNR hall of fame, and the fact Slash is having a blast with his new band... doubt there'll be a GnR reunion, at least for a LONG time
if I remember correctly, Superunknown came from a drug-induced misread TV caption that said "superclown." It might have been from a music video, but I can't remember for sure.
where is the dirt and grit in the sound. Hopefully this little clip doesn't represent the tone of the album. I don't want a polished Soundgarden album.
Really? 11 sec until the end sounds polished to me. Apparently it's me since it was an unpopular statement but when i listen to the older albums they just seem dirtier. Over the top drumming and classic riffs can be polished or dirty so i'm not following what your saying.
ya corgan was a little harsh singling them out...they had announced the album awhile go, nothing wrong with starting off touring to get the juices flowing
