Soundgarden fans have waited for a new album from the band for over 16 years and if what Chris Cornell said in a recent interview is accurate - they'll have to wait just a bit longer than planned.
Soundgarden have been working on their sixth studio album for almost a year now - initially with the intention of a 2011 release and then a tentative spring date had been assigned to the highly anticipated comeback record. Last time we heard from frontman Chris Cornell, he told Rolling Stone that the album was mostly finished and they were still on track for a spring release - his latest interview with Australian radio station Triple M told a different story.
When asked if the band had any plans return to Australia for a full scale - where they recently played a few dates - Cornell responded by saying "Well the album will be out in the fall, so sometime after that." The comment wasn¡¯t followed by any sort of acknowledgment that it was a change of plan, so it is possible that Chris just misspoke - we assume he¡¯ll be asked to comment on the status of the album in his next interview. Either way, we should hear new Soundgarden before the year is out.
The delay may be a scheduling arrangement the band made with Pearl Jam, with whom they share drummer Matt Cameron. He joined PJ shortly after the demise of Soundgarden and has played on all of their albums since 2000¡äs "Binaural". Pearl Jam announced a European tour that will run from June 20th ¨C July 10th and plan to finish recording their tenth studio album this March, Cameron will also tour with SG from May 25th ¨C June 10th. It only makes sense that the two acts would co-ordinate their schedules but does this mean that Pearl Jam¡¯s album will be out first?
Wow, so they've been delaying their new album like three times now. They were going to release it last year, then around this spring/summer and now fall? I'm not saying they should hurry with the new album, but I'd definitely love to hear it.
If two bands are sharing the same drummer, then why aren't the two bands in recording studios closer to each other? Also, stop thinking about tour dates, stop interviewing, and get to work with the new album!

if that'll happen, I'd definitely love to see what a Soundgarden/Pearl Jam collaboration sounds like. Eddie and Chris singing together is surely a treat
Can't wait any longer for this album...I've been holding it in for a year now, and I am about to go crazy if I don't get to listen to it soon lol...Still I am glad that they are taking their time to craft a comeback album. All the other comeback albums like Death Magnetic (Metallica) and Black Ice (ACDC) all blew nuts...Then again they are Soundgarden, they can't make a bad album lol...
