As reported on Billboard.com, Sunny Day Real Estate are going back into the studio to make a new record with their original lineup.
The new album marks the group's first since 1995's LP2. The news of the upcoming record was first tweeted by Seattle radio station KEXP DJ Marco Collins and then confirmed by Billboard. The original lineup consists of singer/guitarist Jeremy Enigk, guitarist Dan Hoerner, bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith.
Reunited last year, the band played 21 dates in 2009 and are already scheduled to play Coachella in Indio, California, and two European shows in April as well. While on tour last year, the group had discussed new material with Spin Magazine and commented on how they would have to prepare for the new album.
"There is certainly interest but it's hard to tell right now," said Enigk. "We've made it a goal to leave expectation at the door and take things as they come. We all have established commitments that would involve good balance between them."
Mendel also plays bass for the Foo Fighters who have announced they will be recording new material this Fall. Sunny Day Real Estate released LP2 several months after their break-up in November 1995. Despite unsuccessfully reuniting the band in 1997, all of the original members agreed to the idea of touring once again in 2009.
