The Offspring frontman Dexter Holland has issued the following update via the band's official website:
"Recording Takes a Long Time.
Working hard, it's just taking awhile to get everything right. Every new part you record, you're trying out different stuff to get just the right guitar, microphone, amp, whatever...I can tell you though, the couple songs we just finished sound like a friggin' freight train...trying to get finished recording in the next month or so we'll keep you posted.
What do you think of this line?
Though I try to break free. The cycle breaks me. Am I ever gonna see the light? That is just teasing you I know."
The still-untitled new album is their follow-up to 2003's "Splinter" and is scheduled for a summer/fall 2007 release via Columbia Records. It will mark the very first proper studio album recorded with drummer Atom Willard, who is the replacement of former member Ron Welty. As the album almost never happened, he was involved in playing drums with Angels and Airwaves, formed by Tom De Longe after Blink-182's first breakup, who released their debut album, "We Don't Need To Whisper", last May.
As previously reported (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/upcoming_releases/the_offspring_announce_new_track.html), Holland recently announced one track that could appear on the new album, titled "Takes Me Nowhere". He also previously mentioned (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/upcoming_releases/new_offspring_songs_completely_new.html) that the songs "we've recorded for our upcoming CD are all completely new." This means that "Pass Me By" (outtake from "Splinter") and a re-recording of "Dirty Magic" (from 1992's "Ignition"), which had been demoed last year (read story on UG), would not be included. Holland described the new songs as "lots of guitar, energy, lots of energy, and good songs." and he thinks "it's the best stuff we've done in a long time."
Holland had also recently mentioned also revealed at the official website's journal entry that The Offspring has so far recorded 13 songs for the new album, although they had 10 more songs for the record. The band is still not sure about which songs will make the final cut or not, or if they will properly record any of the other demos.
