The Offspring: New Album In March?

According to CD Japan, Columbia Records has set a March 26, 2008 release date for The Offspring's long-awaited follow-up to 2003's "Splinter". However, the band and their label have yet to confirm this information or announce a release date for any of the other territories.

The band has been working on the new record for over a year with producer Bob Rock (of Metallica fame), and while frontman Dexter Holland had been posting studio updates on their official website, it is unknown how far the recording has progressed and what its title will be. The album will likely include the tracks "Fix You", "Hammerhead", "Pass Me By" and "Takes Me Nowhere". Holland describes them "lots of guitar, energy, lots of energy, and good songs".

Although former drummer Atom Willard, who left last July (read story on UG), was a still member of the band during the recording, session musician Josh Freese (The Vandals, A Perfect Circle, Devo, Guns N' Roses, Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves) actually handled the drum tracks. While the band supports the album, former Face to Face and Saves the Day member Pete Parada will be drumming for the tour.

As previously announced, The Offspring will embark on a tour of Australia in February to headline Soundwave Festival. This will be the band's first performance together in three years and also its first outing with Parada.

Sweet! Hopefully it's better than Splinter, although splinter had some damn good songs on it. Can't wait to see them live again when they tour for this album

I wouldnt be upset if they ventured from their old sound, I mean you can't grow as a musician if you make the same CD's sound over and over again. And this is comming from a very big Offspring fan, always will be. I hope it will be good.

the offspring is my favorite band of all time.
im sure whatever they do will be phenomenal. id like to hear a lot more from the pre-ixnay classic punk style, but even so, americana and ownards still rocked. different styles same band.

i would love to hear more ska! (what in the world happened to you? dont pick it up, worst hangover ever) i love the offspring.....

ghostofhendrix wrote on 11/22/2007 - 12:56 pm / quote |
The offspring pretty much got me into rock music, so i'm looking forward to this. I would prefer it if they went for a more rocky, guitar driven sound -similar to their old stuff, but as long as the songs are good it's all fine.

Put it on Youtube.

I hope this CD will be good, I've been listening to Offspring longer than any band I like.

Man, looks like that drummer has been with a few big names. ST, G'n'R, Devo, Vandals... Damn. He should be a good pick.

Looking forward to the new disc should be a good'un and of course the tour. Also the last time they played live was their autumn 05 tour. Hardly 3 years is it??

Haha, I remember when I was 11 listening to The Offspring and thinking it was so kick-ass... They got me into rock music for sure. Although I don't listen to anything similar now as my musical tastes have changed with the years, I'll probably buy their new album. I didn't like Splinter much but I'm still looking forward to getting a hand on their new stuff.

That's okay, he's only playing live. They got Josh Freese on the album, and we all know that every drum he hits turns to gold.

i saw them a few years back, and they put on one hell of a show. tons of energy. it was great, we were right up front by the stage. they had some moshing(is that a word?) going on. i lost my shoe but it was awesome none the less.

The thing is, the whole 'St Anger' episode will never get 'old'..

It was one of the biggest disappointments in music history and saying it is 'old' is just saying that it's become unfashionable to dislike St Anger and thats weak. If your a fan of post Load Metallica then fair enough but for us real Metallica fans, we know that Bob Rock brings bad news..
