The Offspring: New Single, New Video

artist: offspring date: 10/03/2008 category: upcoming releases
rating: 0 / votes: 0

The Offspring have revealed plans to release the video for their new single, "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid". The track appears on their highly-anticipated new album "Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace", which was released last June. In regards to the new single and video, frontman Dexter Holland wrote the following message on the band's website:

"Thank you to all the fans out there that made "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" the #1 song at Alternative radio for these past two weeks (and more to come). Thanks guys!

"PS - Video for YGGFK to premiere soon. Directed by Chris Hopewell."

Although not yet released as an "official" single, "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" has been successful on US rock radio stations, reaching the top of the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. This is the third song by The Offspring to hit #1 on that chart (the first being their signature song "Come Out And Play", followed by "Hit That"). It has also reach 28 on New Zealand top 40 music charts in 2 weeks.

The Offspring have yet to announce a full-scale tour in support of their new album, although they have been playing a number of "festival" shows in Europe and the United States randomly. Rumor has it that a full-scale North American tour will commence in late 2008/early 2009 following their upcoming Japanese tour, which kicks off this month.

Yeah, I actually like that song, and it's my favorite on the new record as well.

It's definitely one of the best on the album.

i always wondered why bands did the 'four word' thing. blood sugar sex magik, echoes silence patiences and grace, rise and fall, rage and grace. but i gotta admit its always really cool sounding haha

I don't like it much...

I grew up with early Blink-182 and early Offspring.
That was real punk. They kicked ass - thoroughly!

At least they haven't started cranking out half-assed pop-punk emo tunes...but since The Kids Aren't Alright, it's been...different...

Anybody else miss the tracks like Blackball...?

I think "Half-truism" is by far the best track off this record. I even dare to say is one my fav tracks of this year so far. It has a freaking epic chorus, and I can't understand how come it wasn't their first single. I like "you're gonna go far, Kid", I think is a good choice, but "Hammerhead" was a terrible choice for the first single. Anyways, just my two cents.

I grew up with The Stooges, GG Allen, The Circle Jerks, DOA, Dead Kennedys and later on NoFx and Bad Religion. THAT is real punk rock.

Not trying to define a genre here, just saying. Blink 182 was the beginning of the end as far as the punk mindset was concerned. And LAPD off of Ignition is still one of the Offsprings best songs. Also, the entire album Smash is one of the best *ahem* "new school" punk albums ever.

Blah, they could have picked a better song... There's some better track than that on the album imo... But new Offspring video is new Offspring video, so I'm happy with that

Best song on the album but it's all I listened to and now I'm sick of it.. Kristy, are You Doing Okay? comes in a close second..

Biohazard wrote on 10/03/2008 - 11:15 pm / quote |
Hammerhead is by far the best off that album. It starts off as just a pop punk song then does a complete 180 into an amazing rock song. I can't not mention Rise and Fall without Hammerhead. Hate me if you want, but it's effing amazing.

"Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off" is the name of the song you're thinking of. It's one of the VERY few patd songs I can listen to without wanting to kill someone.

Great song and brilliant new album! Much better than Splinter.

This song, actually this whole album, is amazing. People can complain all they want that You're Gonna Go Far, Kid isn't "True punk". Well what do you expect? its 2008, they're going to sound different then on Smash. But, other songs (Trust In You, Hammerhead, Takes Me Nowhere) still sound like old Offspring, so you really can't complain about the album, if you like the new punk, your gonna like it, but if you like the old offspring, your still gonna find tracks you like.

yes, but in all honesty that's not saying much, anything is better than Splinter.
psyched for the video though, should be interesting to see how it turns out, and I love "You're Gonna Go Far Kid".

Why does everyone hate splinter? It's not a bad album. I mean, not their best ever but its got some good songs.

I just hope they make a video with:
1: An actual theme (unlike Cant Get My Head... and Can't Repeat)
2: Them actually in it (unlike Hit That and Hammerhead)

We haven't had a good video from them in awhile. I'm not really counting Da Hui because of how little to no airplay it got. But they're my favourite band, so I'm sure they'll deliver.

Eh; it's a good track, not the best on the album though. Pretty cool that they got the number 1 spot again; that band ****ing rules.

X2! Blink 182 was pop-punk in the late 90's, just like Sum41. Radio friendly for the masses is all it was.

Dude I totally agree, even though it put the offspring in a different direction, Half-truism was still my #1 favourite. And You cant diss Hammerhead that much, that song is awesome, I think because it sounds like 3 songs in one with the different guitar riffs and beats. Your gonna go far kid is my second favourite sounds like another greatest hit. Great job offspring!

that was real punk? that was asking for a flaming right there haha! real punk i think would be sex pistols, the ramones and such.
I'm not disputing that the offspring and blink 182 didn't kick ass thoroughly, as blink 182 are one of my favourite bands, but i certainly wouldn't call them "real punk"

anyone else notice that it says: "on their highly-anticipated new album 'Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace'? how can it be highly anticipated if it's already out?
