The Offspring Planning New LP

Greg Beharrell of Canadian rock station X92.9 recently spoke with The Offspring guitarist Noodles.

In the interview, Noodles talks about why the band made "Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace", working with producer Bob Rock and the songs off the record.

Asked if The Offspring were planning their next album, Noodles said that frontman Dexter Holland was in Hawaii working with Bob Rock (who also produced "Rise And Fall") and looking back to the songs that didn't make it onto the last record before they could begin writing new material, although he didn't offer a timetable for the next record.

He also discussed the possibility of releasing a b-sides and rarities compilation album.

Oh man, I hope they do a b-sides/rarities compilation. They have a bunch of cool rare stuff, and from what I gather, a whole host of songs they never even released.

Thank God we don't have to wait another 5 years for this. In my opinion, Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace is a classic Offspring album in years. And for the next album, I expect it to be as good as Rise and Fall, Smash, Americana and Ixnay.

people really liked rise and fall??? i thought it was brutal... i liked the first half but that was it. I loved Ixnay and Americana, and the ones before those too (ignition,self-titled)... i thought this was there worst CD of the bunch... with the new b-sides and rarities CD though, well that would be sweet... it would be a lot less produced and polished up like Rise and Fall was... either way, still love these guys! can't wait for the Toronto show with pennywise!!!

i'm super pumped for this. the last album was great. it was great to finally have them release one after splinter. now
we might get one within the next year or so.

you can never get enough of the offspring. I hope this coming album (and the compilation) is as good as the last.

Keep 'em coming Dexter, put as many out as you can. I got heat stroke and seriously felt like i was gunna die at their concert in D.C. 2 weeks ago, but when you get to heaven, what could be better than telling them you died at an Offspring concert lol

Yeah. Rise and Fall was a great album. I get so sick of people bitching about how Americana and Ixnay were the only good times. I've been listening to The Offspring since I was like 8 years old, and I'm now 20. They've always put out quality stuff. People just get pissy when an album actually sells. They have not put out a bad record yet. I heard about this possible rarities compilation a little while ago and I'm pretty excited. Just please stop with all of the hateful comments about how all the new stuff is bad. Some of the songs are sub-par, but overall...The stuff is great. I hope to hear a lot more from these guys for many more years to come. Good job Dexter, Noodles and Greg. I guess previously Ron, and now Pete.

Rise and Fall was just fine. The first 4 songs are all classics. There's a couple I could iive without, but... its that way on almost any CD. Thank God it wasn't another Splinter or Conspiracy of One.
Looking forward to whatever these guys do.

Good. I liked Rise and Fall and was hoping for another one soon. Although Smash, Americana, and Ixnay were better Rise and Fall would probably right after those three. It's not the same as their old stuff, but it's still really good.

Rise and Fall Rage and Grace was much much better than Splinter and Conspiracy. I'm not too much of a fan of their older stuff my favorite was between the Smash and Americana ERA (with Ixnay being my favorite) and I feel that RaFRaG ranks up there with those 3.

Unlike most other bands, I feel like RFRG was perfect because it wasn't totally different. Honestly, there are huge differences between the Smash era and this, but you can still hear that it's the same band. I don't feel like there is a huge genre change to piss people off.

The Offspring pretty much is mainstream to whoever said he hates it when Bob Rock turns bands mainstream. They're not exactly 'underground'. They even have a radio hit and I'd imagine they have before.

Yeah, andrew12398, around the time you were born they had little radio hit called "Come out and play". They've had radio hits on every album since. OK, maybe modern rock radio, but some have gotten play on top 40, too ("Pretty Fly For a White Guy")

RAFRAG sucked. Besides Hammerhead, the rest just turned into some whinny emo-ish crap. When I heard that one song that starts with the piano and I heard Dexter go "ohhh" I was like "NOOOOO!!!" There old stuff was much better. Ever since Ron left they have been going down hill. They need to go back to the Ixnay stuff.

Even though I thought this album was kind of softer, I think Half-Truism is one of their best songs, next to Tehran, The Noose, What Happened To You and The Meaning Of Life. I'm not really sure I like the idea of having Bob Rock again as the producer, but I'm with the ones who say they haven't really changed that much across the years...

i can't believe anyone liked rfrg. by far, it's the offpring's worst album. only a few of the songs even sound like ones they would make. i don't know if it was bob rock or what, but rfrg was just awful compared to their past stuff - way too polished and mainstream. and also, people have GOTTA stop bashing spliter. there were so many good songs on that album. the noose, for example, was esily one of the best songs they've ever written, and at least splinter(despite songs like spare me the details, worst hangover ever and hit that [all of which were good songs, though]) was still very punk. i mean of rfrg, there was practically no punk (and don't even try to say that you're gonna go far kid was punk, cuz it wasn't). the last five songs on rfrg were garbage (rise and fall being a blatant green day rip off). also, what the hell was with the mopy piano shit? i'm not saying for the band to not progress and make another smash, but they definately could've done a better job than rfrg. they overthought the thing and took way too much time on it instead of just being who they are. hopefully, the next album won't suck (although, with bob rock, i won't get my hopes up).

Why do people overlook Splinter which is definitely one of the best albums they've ever made and should be in their top 3 no matter who you are. Splinter is the most classic Offspring album since Smash.

The Offspring were what got me into the whole rock scene way back in the day in the first place and as an (ex) avid fan, my opinion is as good as anyones when i say their last album was a maaajor piece of shit, I literally listened to it through once and threw the disc across the room without a second thought. That album wasted 30 minutes of my life and ive still tried to get them back since that day, so I just dont think im ready to be dissapointed like that again just yet.

B-sides and rarites on the other hand would be worth it as long as they're from some fabled Offspring time capsule that got lost back in their prime years and if thats the case id definately pick it up on release date.
