The Offspring: Working On New Album

The Offspring frontman Dexter Holland has confirmed that the band had already gone back to the studio to record their eighth studio album -- the follow-up to 2003's "Splinter".

"Well what's up this week? We went back in the demo studio last weekend, just Noodles and I, doing some guitar tracks. It was a blast. It feels good to get back in the studio and do some recording and just be a band, you know? I'm sure you do if you're in a band. We knocked off early because it was Noodles' birthday (remember?) and he had some ragin' to do.

"People are asking us about possibly doing some festivals in Europe this summer, which would be fun, but we thought it would be better to stay home and work on songs for another record. What do you think?"

Released in December 2003, "Splinter" is The Offspring's first album of new material since 2000's "Conspiracy of One." It is also the group's first recording without drummer Ron Welty, who left the band in early 2003 to pursue his career with a band project Steady Ground. Taking over for Welty is Adam "Atom" Willard (Alkaline Trio, American Hi-Fi and Rocket from the Crypt).

It can't be too soon for me. I heard that they are re-recording a song that didn't make Splinter. This is going to be a great album (until MTV finds out about it and overplays everything, like they did with a American Idiot).

I can't ****ing wait man...Been almost 3 years now since the last album. Splinter was good, but there are better albums by them. They just need to be them..keep makin what they want. Who gives a **** what the corporates and 13 year old girls wanna hear? I just wanna hear The Offspring. There isn't a song by them I don't love. I hope its soon when this new album comes out though. I'm losing my mind waiting...But then again when it does come out I'll be waiting for the 9th album ^^.

maybe not, but bands like simple plan, good charlotte, and green day are pop-punk bands. they call themselves "punk", but their sound obviously differs from real punk.

The hidden track at the end of the greatest hits comp. was a cover of the Police's "Next to You," which is pretty good.
