Dying Scene reports that, after months of speculation, The Offspring are apparently getting close to finishing up their hugely anticipated new album, which would be their first since 2008's "Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace".
Last Tuesday (August 2nd), the band posted a 35-minute podcast where its leaders Dexter Holland and Noodles, and special guest, competitive eating champion Takeru Kobayashi, talk about the Gringo Bandito Taco Challenge, which took place yesterday (August 3rd) in Huntington Beach, California. In addition, they talk about the making of their 1992 second album "Ignition" and say that their new album is just about done.
In regards to the new album, Holland states, "
so as you guys at home can probably tell we've been totally fuckin' off on not working on the record." He then goes on to say that The Offspring have been in the studio every day and are taking a little break so that he could write more lyrics. He also adds that the band has a "
good chunk of music recorded" and that both the drums and guitar tracks are done for the 12 tracks they like.
Holland also asked Noodles if he thought the new album would finally come out this year, to which Noodles replied, "No. I don't think so... prove me wrong, dude!" However, he later adds, "Who knows at this point? It's definitely not gonna be a Chinese Democracy situation. It's not… you know, we're gonna finish it, we're getting close, you see the light at the end of the tunnel. You know… we're not gonna go in and scrap and re-write these songs, these songs are good. So don’t worry about that."
The Offspring will be embarking on a 16-date European tour beginning in Prague, Czech Republic on August 16 and ending in Madrid, Spain on September 10.
