The Used Riff Zeppelin On New CD |

Since the release of their last album, "In Love And Death," two years ago, it's been fairly quiet on the Used front. But there are increasing signs of life, including the release of a DVD, billing on the Taste of Chaos tour and a new album due in stores early next year, reports Jessica Robertson of AOL Music Blog.
Guitarist Quinn Allman has trickled out some more information about the band's forthcoming third effort, telling Guitar World magazine that the first single will be the song " Handsome Awkward."
"[The song] sounds like Aerosmith got into a fight with somebody," Allman said in the January issue. "It sounds like Steven Tyler's gonna have a seizure. It's definitely blues-y and based off a really good guitar riff. Definitely a heavier, riffier Zeppelin kind of style."
The band re-teamed with producer John Feldmann for the as-yet-untitled effort. "The record is brand new, a couple of great songs, a couple of heavy songs," frontman Bert McCracken told AOL. "We've been hiding away for a while, but we're pretty stoked."

: I know the Used are the probably the trendiest band out there. Every 12 year old girl has a poster of Bert McCracken hanging over there Beauty and the Beast inspired, "princess bed." And as a result, most of you are going to either wet your, “big boy pants,” or talk shit to me posing as an Oxford scholar, or a guitar playing Eminem. Either way, when will you stop looking up to these guys as musically inspired geniuses? Every song is a progression of near identical sequence while Bert moans into the microphone as if he is some type of mongoloid walrus being gutted with K.F.C. spork. Let Radio Disney cover interviews on the Used. Why smear this kind of filth on such a prestigious site? Don’t answer that, because unless you are telling me you are boycotting them, I don’t care. I know, however, some of you are going to try and lay the “verbal smack-down,” on me for my views. Ok who ever said that all music had to be extreamly complicated the beatles when they first started off only used a coupple of chords but people still say they are great just because busic dosnt have 30 different chords and arpegios and stuff like dream theater music is suposed to make you feel an emotion if a band can get that emotion out through a coupple of chords then great and if another band can get that same emotion out with 30 chords then more power to them but dont talk shit about music because it is simple and then when you say he moans it is called screaming and i bet you couldnt scream for an hour and still sing like he does so dont say shit about them because your just making your self sound like an ignorant closed minded music lissener music is music if it makes you feel good thats all that mattersPOSTED: 11/29/2006 - 02:51 pm / quote |

I did.
I thought it was saying that The Used were using a Led Zepplin riff.
I was about to shoot up the street over it.
Not that I hate the used (I own two of their albums... well, both I guess if they only have two...)
but I dont think anyone should try to use someone elses stuff, the way this article made me think they were.
But they're not, so hey good for them.
I wish them the best of luck (not that they need it, but still)

: I'm not saying the Used is anywhere comparable to Zeppelin, nor should they try. Not saying they are the greatest band ever or anything, but they don't suck. Bert, when he wants to, can actually sin very well, though most just know him for his screaming. Quinn, the guitarists, while he may not play the hardest things in the world, he is a pretty good, and creative guitarist. If you actually listened to them, you notice that. No its not Megadeath, or Trivium, or Metallica or Steve Vai or anything, but he is creative in his own right. The bassit (I dont know who their new one is, but their old one is solid, no John Paul Jones or anything though.
These guys are good at what they do, and if you don't like the genre, you don't like the genre. I don't like country, but I know the genre has some talented bands, and musicians, it just isn't my taste.
You guys should try being a little more open minded once and awhile, it wouldn't kill you.POSTED: 11/29/2006 - 03:11 pm / quote |

I personally took the time to "get into" the Used for a while. I couldn't, there is absolutely no creativity whatsoever in their musical style. It really pisses me off when people like you say "oh, just because their music doesn't have 30 different chords you don't like it", it just has to be good music. And if a guy "screaming" (which needs no vocal talent whatsoever) about how his ex ripped his heart out makes you feel good, you have ****ing issues. Serious ****ing issues. Thus, all of the Used fans are ****ing psycho 12 year olds with issues.POSTED: 11/29/2006 - 06:48 pm / quote |

wow. anyone else's head hurt reading that. I remember the days of comma's and periods. and what crack are you smoking? dude, the beatles used a crapload of chords. many of which I would be suprised if people knew them today. I don't even like the beatles but they were not just three chord heroes, chief.
And Bert does moan and whine in the songs. hello. he doesn't scream the whole time, and when he's nice screaming (which I do appreciate, he has a good live scream) he is whining and moaning. wtf. he has a naturally whiny voice, and listen to 'on my own' or whatever that song was called...that is MOANING. and some type of grunting. not screaming.POSTED: 11/29/2006 - 08:30 pm / quote |

I agree, I really wish it still took talent for a musician to get famous. There are so many amazing guitar players, but they get no recognition while these jerks have people adoring them for a couple power chords and a bunch of whining. |
That's bullshit. Sure they aren't the greatest band in the world, but have you tried playing one of their songs by ear recently? Not that easy. It's definitely more than just a few power chords. You're being a hypocrite. You are bitching at people for saying they like them and then you go and bash them. That's so ****ing annoying. You need to keep your negative opinions (pardon my hypocracy) to yourself. No one cares.POSTED: 11/29/2006 - 10:19 pm / quote |

: HeavyLedMetal is right about the rest of Zeppelin not knowing that some of the lyrics were from other songs. From what I have heard of the Used they arn't musically knowlegable and when they say that the song sounds like Zeppelin it means the guitar player will take his money (from little girls buying his CD's) and buy a Gibson EDS-1275, play it in the video for this song, of course not playing the 12 string (he wouldnt know how to first off and second it would probably hurt his fingers) thusly making them, in their minds, better than Zep.POSTED: 11/30/2006 - 12:11 am / quote |

: Wow, I'm getting annoyed at all these former-emo bands who are now trying their hand with more classic rock, "heavier" riffs. ie. MCR, they used to be emo but mysteriously must have taken 28 anti-depressants each and they somehow recovered from that phase and now play "rock/metal" as it says on their Myspace page.
Sure.
Now The Used are doing the same. An Aerosmith-esque bluesy riff?
Go back to your crappy riffs and lyrics about melting in girls' arms, and leave the "heavier bluesy riffs" for bands that didn't start on the emo-bandwagon and now want to get off.POSTED: 11/30/2006 - 12:36 am / quote |

To that I say, “Whatever helps you sleep at night little britches.” |
i spose you think your the big high and mighty saying stuff like, 'while Bert moans into the microphone as if he is some type of mongoloid walrus being gutted with K.F.C. spork'. umm yea.. that totally makes sense. i'm not sticking up for the used, i don't even like them much. I'm sticking up for music and if 12yr old girls hav posters of bert above their bed.. why should you care? and i can almost guarantee that 12yr old girls aren't the used's only audience .. seeing that their now bringing out a third studio album.POSTED: 11/30/2006 - 12:52 am / quote |

Ok who ever said that all music had to be extreamly complicated the beatles when they first started off only used a coupple of chords but people still say they are great just because busic dosnt have 30 different chords and arpegios and stuff like dream theater music is suposed to make you feel an emotion if a band can get that emotion out through a coupple of chords then great and if another band can get that same emotion out with 30 chords then more power to them but dont talk shit about music because it is simple and then when you say he moans it is called screaming and i bet you couldnt scream for an hour and still sing like he does so dont say shit about them because your just making your self sound like an ignorant closed minded music lissener music is music if it makes you feel good thats all that matters | POSTED: 11/30/2006 - 12:55 am / quote |

wow. anyone else's head hurt reading that. I remember the days of comma's and periods. and what crack are you smoking? dude, the beatles used a crapload of chords. many of which I would be suprised if people knew them today. I don't even like the beatles but they were not just three chord heroes, chief.
And Bert does moan and whine in the songs. hello. he doesn't scream the whole time, and when he's nice screaming (which I do appreciate, he has a good live scream) he is whining and moaning. wtf. he has a naturally whiny voice, and listen to 'on my own' or whatever that song was called...that is MOANING. and some type of grunting. not screaming. |
