The Vines Fill Us In On Album #4

Although it was reported the other day that they were meant to work with Phil Spector -- who ditched them to work with some solo dude who reminds him of John Lennon -- the band is soldiering on and things are progressing well on their new effort.

Everyone in Vines camp is excited about the new album being in the works and are glad that all the fans are showing so much interest. Just to keep everyone updated on whats going on heres a bit of a progress report:

Craig has been immersed in writing and the band has been busy demoing the songs he's coming up with. They're about a month away from having about 25 fully demoed songs to pick and choose from for the new album. The guys are spending alot of time on it so that they have a wide variety of material to choose from and can smooth out anything they think needs a bit of smoothing out.

Without having a label they have this freedom at this point. Once they feel they have a solid compilation for an album they will be choosing a new label and a producer and will get in the studio for final cuts. We'll keep you all updated! A September release date is probably not going to happen but a 2007 release is very likely. Hang in there kids.

Seeing as it's August 16th, I'd say, no, a September release is not going to happen, what with the songs not being recorded yet and the band not having a label. If it did happen, I'd actually become afraid of The Vines, because it would mean they had learned to bend space and time.

Thanks for the info to Shoutmouth.com.

This is exactly why it's so hard being an aspiring metaller in Australia...the entire relatively-small Australian music industry only gets behind crap music and soft bands like The Vines and not decent metal bands.

Anyway, The Vines are okay.

Love the Vines. Vision Valley was dissapointing because the songs were too short. Except Spaceship, Spaceship was ****ing awesome. Anyway, I can't wait to hear this new stuff. Craig does some of the best vocals in music today, methinks.

The vines are terrible. I thought we were done with Nirvana ripoff bands. Their albums suck and they're an awful live band. Their singer, and I use the term "singer" loosely, pulls this "punk rock" BS and just screams nonsensically into the mic.

Do everyone a favor and stop making music.

Listen to Homesick and say that again. They're absolutely a studio band, but I don't see anything wrong with that.

I thought Highly Evolved was a great first effort, Winning Days is one of the most under-rated albums of all time and Vision Valley has some stellar moments. From what i've seen their live show is fairly weak compared to their albums. But if Craig Nicholls wants to beleive he's the second coming of Kurt Cobain and scream through a live set, so be it. Better than thinking he's the second coming of someone else and missing out on some great albums.

ze monsta: Autumn Shade 3? We can only hope.

I love their live shows... but they are very unique, in the way that you have to appreciate the energy rather than the sound thats coming out of them, which is why i think sum ppl arent to fond of their live shows!
For me personaly tho, i get upset if craig ISNT jumping around, swinging the guitar and screaming into the microphone... but thats just me!

They do choose not to play their songs perfectly because as craig said "if you want to listen to the songs like they do on the album, listen to a jukebox!"

They were awesome at Reading 2006.

Its true how under-rated Winning Days is!!

Cant wait for the 4th album!!!!!

You're ridiculous. The goddamn Beatles didn't tour at all after 1966 and produced some of the greatest albums of all time. Good music is good music, whether it's live or recorded. A fantastic album by a band that sucks live is still a fantastic album.

If u're going to compare the vines to the beatles, you should reevaluate who's ridiculous. The beatles stopped touring cause it was getting crazy, but before they stopped, they put on some great music live.

My point isn't that the Vines are on the same plane as the Beatles, it's that good recordings can stand on their own without good performances.

How can you respect a band that can't play their music when it comes time to perform? Check out Radiohead and Muse, they are incredible because they release great albums and put on amazing shows.

It doesn't take much to dub a few guitars and have mr. producer buff it neat and maybe add some strings.

They also stopped touring because the weren't able to replicate their studio sound live anymore.

Vision Valley was a letdown. Like three good songs, although those three were more than good. "Don't LIsten to the Radio", "Anysound", and "Spaceship" may be their best work, but the other songs mostly ranged from bad to quite bad> "Futuretarded" anyone? Not sure about this one, Craig Nichols does have a unique sense of melody though that may be underrated.

they were absolutly fantastic live! they sounded great, and it was one of the best performances i've been to! (at big day out earlier this year)

so i doubt you will find any real vines fans who go to their show and come back disspaointed.

if you dont like them live its probaly because you dont like their punk and grunge influences.

i still dont have the new album either - but i will be getting it soon! and can't wait for the new stuff either!

I liked Vision Valley (the song), And Candy Daze. But yeah, those plus the three that you mentioned are the only ones I ever listen to from that album. Spaceship, though, man. God it's great.

They didn't stop touring because they couldn't play well live. They quit touring because how stressful being the biggest band in the world and not being able to hear yourself while performing was. There is no need to mention this band with the likes of the Beatles, since one band consisted of legends, while the other consists of a poor songwriter who likes to pretend he's Kurt Cobain. Why he enjoys doing so, we shall never know. If you want decent modern rock by an honest musician who's not trying to become a dead rock star by singing extremely badly and pretending he has no control over his body because his character has a drug problem, then listen to Sam Roberts.

Nothing against Australia, I just can't stand Kurt Cobain wannabes. The amount of dead rock stars he could rip off (and don't deny for a second he goes out of his way to try and look and act like Cobain) could have chosen from was limitless. It's like being in a class full of sexy cheerleaders, and he chooses to sit beside the obese girl that smells of cheese...

I have trouble seeing how anyone who's heard more than Get Free and maybe a few other radio singles can write off everything Craig Nicholls does as Cobain emulation. Half the songs they put out are absolutely nothing like anything Nirvana ever did, but no one who wrote them off after Get Free seems to want to do their homework and listen to more than a handful of songs before making sweeping, vastly innacurate statements like that. If all the Vines ever did was the mediocre grungy stuff that I won't deny they do, I wouldn't give a rat's ass about them. But there's a whole other kind of mellow, acoustic, vocal harmony-soaked psych-pop they do that no one ever wants to acknowledge when they rip on the band.
Also, in mentioning the Beatles, I never meant to draw a comparison between the two groups. I simply meant to point out the absurdity of the idea that studio bands are what's wrong with music when arguably the greatest group of all time didn't tour at all during their creative height.

People only keep bringing up Nirvana, because the NME introduced them as a cross between The Beatles and Nirvana.

The 3rd album was most definately more Britpop orientated!

I dont understand people saying the vines are shit and comparing them to grunge and punk bands. People don't seem to realize that the songs, even having a minimalist approach, are not actually that basic. Listen to the softer tracks on highly evolved and you can find great progressions, vocal melodies and harmonies and whatnot. underrated band in my opinion.
