U2 Name Next Album And Single

Following the recent revelation that U2 will release the follow-up to the newly-released "No Line On The Horizon" before 2009 ends, the band have revealed its title and that of its lead single.

The Irish rockers' next studio album will be entitled "Songs Of Ascent", while the lead single will be named "Every Breaking Wave".

Frontman Bono told Rolling Stone that the album would be a "sister release" to "No Line On The Horizon", which was released on Monday (March 2).

He said it was a "'Zooropa' to its 'Achtung Baby'."

He added: "We're making a kind of heartbreaker, a meditative, reflective piece of work, but not indulgent. It will all have a clear mood, like Miles Davis album 'Kind Or Blue'. Or [John Coltrane song] 'A Love Supreme' would be a point of reference, for the space it occupies in people's lives, which is to say, with that album, I almost take my shoes off to listen to it."

What's with all the hating on "No Line on the Horizon?" It's not only one of best albums this year, but it's their most solid work since "Achtung Baby." Either that or it seems that way because each album since then was more and more patchy (though still above average, though average is getting more and more patchy too).

I'm excited about this new one. Bono mentioned two of my favorite jazz records there. Comparing something you've made to "A Love Supreme" is committing suicide to your artistic integrity if you can't back it up though.

All these people hating U2. Man...if only their own band was one of the greatest. They'll probably be doing something that others will disapprove. This next CD is like the Zooropa & Rattle And Hum....different from their immediate predecessor CD. I've worked w/so many nationals...and this is one band that still has the original members, since they were 15yrs old. Other bands have replacements that have a vibe that they're playing covers of their favorite band. Plus, they play live...no tracks whatsoever! You'd be surprised if that guitar solo you hear was just a recording...yes musicians are great actors too.

i honestly don't think they've done anything good since "all you can leave behind" so i'm not expecting too much... but i hate it when bands release 2 albums in the same year, i think one album is enough for all the fans to enjoy

Remember album sales go to the record label...tours goes to the bands, venues, the PRODUCTION CREW!!!. In these hard economic times, bands are touring more...they're actually looking after their own crew. A lot of reunions are occurring (FNM, Jane's Addiction, No Doubt, Sublime, etc.) Too stay alive and avoid the 'greatest hits' tour, they must release new material. No wonder this year is one of the busiest. AC/DC's crew are all in their 50's/60's, and have worked for them for almost 20-30 yrs...they're all great! Same w/U2's crew (younger, yet long term contracts). Successful bands also know that people will always find money to get entertained, especially in these times. Even though Metallica's latest album had mixed reactions, their tour would be a guaranteed success. It's fortunate that U2 can still do that w/their fans. Having a 2nd album out will extend their tour...2-3yrs. Remember the Joshua Tree tour-Lovetown Tour....ZooTV-Zoomerang tour? The record labels a b*tching, coz they know they can't make money off band's tour revenue! That's the benefit of downloads these days...forces the band to tour.

Could this be the Rick Ruben sessions? The difference is that Ruben wants the songs to be completed before recording. On the other hand, Lanois/Eno/Lillywhite prefer them to come with ideas then experiment/jam before they record.

U2's great and all, but NLOTH was really different to all their other stuff. I mean, compare to their earlier experimentation albums, it's not much different, but to their epics like The Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum, they're probably better off sticking to that material if the record company's on their back. Every Breaking Wave can't possibly be a pop song in my opinion though. The title just doesn't work.

I don't know also if any of you, even fans, want U2 to copycat Joshua Tree and rename it into NLOTH. You HAVE Joshua Tree! This is different...and different is good. If you don't tolerate U2 making new and different albums, it's OK, maybe you are a Joshua Tree Album fan, not a U2 fan.

We like something about U2, maybe Joshua Tree, maybe something in All You Can Leave Behind, or how about War? Maybe NLOTH. And of course the balance, we dislike some things about U2, it's all right, but comparing a 2009 record with a 1987 record....quite useless.

Saving Abel
Job For A Cowboy
Cannibal Corpse

Worked w/2 of these bands live. One was actually good...and the other was a pain in the arse to work with.
