Weezer Plans Rarities Compilation

Weezer recently spoke to Billboard about releasing a new compilation featuring the band's previously unreleased and rare material.

Frontman Rivers Cuomo noted:

"They're great songs, but for some reason they didn't make the final cut for [a] record. They span a vast period of time from the very beginning of our career in the early '90s right up to the present day."

Meanwhile, Cuomo says Weezer may tour next spring with Oasis, and is hoping to enlist Spike Jonze to direct a video for the song "The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived" from its recent "The Red Album."

And while the next Weezer studio album appears to be a ways off, the group recently recorded six Christmas carols that will be downloadable for the iPhone game "Tap Tap Revenge," including "Oh Holy Night." Says Cuomo, "They're the classics."

I saw them this October in Chicago, it was a really great time!

I've seen Weezer when they were supporting GnR a few years ago and the crowd was boring...

sweet. i hope Oasis is supporting Weezer and not the other way around. i wouldn't mind seeing Oasis though. i'm not that much of a fan, but they're ok. Weezer is awesome live though, and i definitely want to go again.

This album sounds like a good idea, Weezer have a ton of good unreleased songs.

And a tour with Oasis, eh? Well, I'm down with it as long as Weezer play first, so that I can leave immediately after. It's been too long since the Weez came to Britain, after all.

When I saw them Pat Wilson came out with the guitar to sing Automatic. They also covered What's the Story? (Morning Glory) with Pat on guitar and vocals. It was cool.

So I think they might be friends or at least supportive of each others music. Should be a good tour.

And I'm hoping that this release is something like Songs For The Black Hole, but since they got so many rare songs it probably won't be.

Me too! I'm out of my Weezer phase, but it's still a real treat listening to the b-sides and rarities that I found online. I hope this'll be a good collection of some that I've never heard before.
