ZZ Top To Work With Rick Rubin

artist: zz top date: 06/16/2008 category: upcoming releases
rating: 0 / votes: 0

BW&BK just posted an exclusive story about their conversation with ZZ Top where they learned that the band has inked a deal with Rick Rubin. Here is part of that exchange: Arguably the world's greatest living bluesman, Billy Gibbons, spoke to BW&BK recently about ZZ Top's upcoming DVD Live In Texas, the reissue of Eliminator, and also work on the band's first record since the highly entertaining but somewhat ignored Mescalero album from fully five years ago.

"That starts pretty soon," says Billy. "We just inked a deal with Rick Rubin that will be announced shortly. And I'm sure he's got plans to make way to drag us off the touring trail back into the studio, which will be a nice excursion."

Given his reputation for paring things back, would you be moving in the same direction, going for a back to the roots thing? "Could be. Rick and I have been friends for a couple of decades now. And we both like a lot of the same things. And mostly it is that rootsy kind of sense of realism. That's his genius."

Thanks for the info to Antimusic.com.

I really hope they go back to the sound from their first several albums. Like, Deguelo(spelling?) was awesome. As was Tres Hombres...
I would like more of that

Eliminator is probably the worst ZZ Top record. It's far too poppy.

How is Billy Gibbons considered the worlds Greatest Living bluesman when B.B. King is still alive. Im not dissing Gibbons but come on!

...it said "arguably"... both are amazing at blues, but definitely have their own distinct styles. good to hear that these guys still want to record. it's been too long since their last cd (a whole 5 years)

Oh God, this will sound weird, ZZ Top is a blues/rock band, Rubin is a metal producer

No, they told the media that they turned it down because they are "too ugly without them".
