Avril Lavigne Preps Colorful Tour

Avril Lavigne has a simple description for her upcoming live production.

"It rocks," Lavigne said during a recent teleconference. "It's very much me, but just the next level. And it's exciting because the reason why I wanted to bring in more [dancers] and I got a new band and added more players to it is because I wanted more energy on stage."

An explosion of color, Lavigne's stage will be decorated with LED screens, checkered flooring, a pink sparkle drum kit, a pink piano and flags. It will also feature a much more confident Lavigne, who is married to fellow Canadian Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley.

"A lot of people don't know this about me, but I''m actually shy around people I don't know," Lavigne said. "I would just say, with my first concert, my first tour, I didn't really talk on stage. I was like, 'Thank you. I love you guys,' or whatever."

I don't mind her music. I thought her new album was decent enough. Not that I'd really listen to it but I wouldn't turn it off. It does have some catchy melodies.

well i respected her up until that "Girlfried" shit she pulled off. alle her stuff before that was pretty decent, not my cup of tea but whatever, but "Girlfriend" really showed the commercial, do-anything-to-sell-an-album part of her. she comes across to me as being really immature. If you took a better look into her back catalogue you would see some very deep and emotional acoustic stuff as b-sides etc. Im not defending her new album as its only half decent (obviously your judging on the one song). So dont come in shouting and swearing, if you dont like her fair enough but then dont read the article and dont post!

Her new stuff is shit... now she's just trying to sell albums. Which kind of makes me cringe, the fact that turning to that crap actually SELLS albums. Anyway, her old stuff I don't mind as much...

The voice IS an instrument. Most people are too shallow to realize that singing well is more often than not the result of years of training and practice, just like with a guitar, trombone, violin, drums or whatever the case is. Avril Lavigne has been singing since she was a very small child, and got coaching and developed a natural talent, which means that she has more musical integrity than most of the theory-challenged "guitarists" who just read the tabs on this site and noodle them out. Don't hate the game, just learn the rules and get better at playing.

That said, I don't really enjoy her music. But I do stand by what I said.

actually, everyone of those bands you listed(as for King Crimson im not too sure) were VERY popular and appealed to the general masses during their time and did so to sell albums. Its not about being popular. It's about going in a studio and being an artist compared to trying to get on the radio. Its so funny that people always try and rip on artist that make money, is not the whole point of a band to make money on that level. If someone is going to devote their life to music then money has to be one of their goals, no matter what the hell they say. Yes her new stuff is very bad, but some of her older stuff was very good. She still has a pretty good voice, vocals in themselves are talent. Writing a song that is very catchy also takes talent. I'm pretty sure you can put food on the table and such without being a hypocritical bitch. That isn't the point. I would turn down a chance to record with her. I don't think consuming myself into her environment would be the healthiest choice. Sometimes it's ok to turn down offers. Maybe I'm happy with what I've got or making it on my own. If you knew a goddamn thing about business, you would realize that just about anyone who is smart with their money, no matter their life situation, can avoid debt and enjoy life. What I meant is that a lot of people don't listen to music for the song, a lot of people condition themselves to like a certain song/album/artist for various reasons. I know (and there are literally hundreds on this site alone) that would absolutely HATE some of the songs they currently like if it wasn't written by their favourite artist. A lot of people listen to music by genre or by the artist.
Actually, thinking about it now some people do actually listen to music they don't like because of their social network.
I'm not asking (nor expecting) people to listen to more music or delve into unfamiliar musical territory, I just always feel the need (maybe it's pretentious of me to do so) to tell ignorant people stop negatively commenting on stuff they don't like thinking that their opinion is the word of God. I do understand that radio is geared toward the masses, and the masses may enjoy listening to Avril Lavigne. (And, by all means, they certainly have the right to, just as people also have the right to avoid it.)
Still, at a sporting event like, say my school's track meet, it gets annoying to have to hear music that I disagree with so much being blared into my ears. It's a track meet, not a concert. I feel that I have every right to be annoyed and voice my opinion about it.

Still, all people have the right to their own musical opinions. Like you said, if it sounds good to you, listen to it.

Just respect other peoples taste in music (or business) and try and listen to a range of music too. Don't just listen to Metal, Punk or whatever you are trying to shove down peoples throats. I actually liked Avril's first album. Second one, was okay. Everything she has done recently, though, is utter crap. Skater punk chick transformed into "mature" woman obsessed with pink? I smell a sellout.

Her old songs, like Complicated and Tomorrow, those were at least a little thoughtful while still being "sing-along" ish. Now she's gotten rid of any feeling that was ever in her music.

Avril's NOT talentless, she has a better voice than the lot of you, she can play guitar well enough to back up the vocals, and she has more money and fame than you. But right now she's going downhill, and is not stopping anytime soon.

Money has been a factor in my life, the same way it's a significant part of anyone's life. Even if you're rich and don't need to worry about having enough money, it's still there, it's still something to deal with, and it's still a very important part of society, hence it's an issue in everyone's life.

I work in a warehouse mate, I don't earn a lot of money, even though I work a damn sight harder than so many people I see. So believe me when I say money is an issue for me, but it's not the point.

I am a musician, I make a constant effort to better my musicianship in one way or another, in any measure, and I believe any self-respecting musician should do the same. That is what being a sell-out is is about; it's about trading your musicianship for a business oppertunity. You don't need to do that to be really successful and famous. But when people like young lassy here can't measure up to those of us that respect music enough to work hard for it, they need to cheat. It's as simple as that.

and i work in a movie rental store, but that's not the point. i attempt to better my musicianship as well, and i'm sure avril and whoever writes with her makes the same effort. but 'bettering' means something different to each person. to some it may be writing something that's infectious and going to stick in people's heads, and to others it may be writing a lick that's faster than anything else on the planet, and anyone who can do what they consider 'better' should be given respect, regardless of the listener's preference. i can shred with my metalhead buddies, but i choose to write riffs that are simple and to the point. and guess what? if i suddenly ended up on mtv... i'd be a sellout.

and more on point; if you wouldn't conform your sound a little to what people want to hear, you're a more self-respecting person than myself or avril.
