Avril Lavigne Schedule 2008 Tour

Punk-pop princess Avril Lavigne finally is hitting the road next spring to support for her April release, "Best Damn Thing."

The North American outing, which will feature dancers and a live band along with special guests Boys Like Girls, is set to shove off March 5 in Victoria, British Columbia. The initial schedule for her 2008 Best Damn Tour includes stops all over Canada and the US into May, and additional dates will be announced shortly, according to a press release.

Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Nov. 17, and fans can gain access to pre-sale tickets by joining Lavigne's fan club at her website.

"I can't wait to get back out on the road!" Lavigne said in a statement. "I have the most fun when I am performing for the fans. I think that energy comes through in my live show."

The Canadian-born singer/songwriter gave an acoustic concert 11/06 at West Hollywood, CA's Whisky A Go-Go during a press conference to announce the tour.

Her remaining engagements for 2007 include the United Against AIDS Concert in Montreal this month as well as performances on the Nov. 18 American Music Awards and the Nov. 20 episode of ABC-TV's "Dancing with the Stars." A handful of US concerts are also on the books next month, including three radio-sponsored holiday festivals.

Lavigne is supporting her latest platinum-selling set, "Best Damn Thing," which topped the US album chart when it surfaced in April. The lead single, "Girlfriend," also shot to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album and song recently scored Lavigne two wins each at the World Music Awards and the MTV Europe Music Awards.

"Best Damn Thing" follows 2004's triple-platinum-selling "Under My Skin," which spawned the hits "Don't Tell Me" and "My Happy Ending."

Lavigne burst onto the music scene five years ago, at age 17, with hit singles "Sk8r Boi" and "Complicated." Her debut album, "Let Go," snagged eight Grammy nominations and four Juno Awards (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys). She has since sold close to 30 million albums worldwide, according to a press release.

Last year, Lavigne married Sum 41's Deryck Whibley and branched out into acting, appearing in Richard Linklater's "Fast Food Nation" and lending her voice to the Dreamworks animated film "Over the Hedge."

yeah back in the day pop punk could be punk you know its different now. Popular music is one branch. Its rock stars against drugs because thats what the president wants, its rock stars who do pepsi cola commercials. it's lame! theres nothing artistic or rock and roll about it. It's about being cool and being popular. Punk rock was about rocking out and haha well being on drugs a lot of the time. for her to call her self punk rock is definitely a different punk rock. its not the same at all its a whole different category. Personally i feel none of those punk bands were all that talented. That's where this whole argument came from really. At the time those bands were considered real punk, and they were really, but now they're allegedly pop-punk because of how massive they've become over the years.

I always thought Rock started off as a Stick 2 fingers up at whoever's Heckling you for whatever reason... Punk came about I think(?) with people getting fed up of the glam rock of the 1970's, (Pistols - Metallica comparisons can kinda be made here, Metallica n Thrash did a similar sorta deal with Hair Metal in the 80's) I know Ramones were the first, but the Pistols are the band that spring to mind with most folks because the huge & immediate impact they had. And I wouldn't call either of them pop-punk at all. I'm sure neither camp wrote their stuff in an attempt to BE popular bands, it just kinda happened.
Avril was alkways a manufactured pop star. With a guitar, and a skater-'Punk' Wardrobe, because at the time that was the main thing. Also note how she went emo to follow the trends... This newest one's a lot more upbeat, which I like. To be honest, Rock and Punk at their heart have got a similar message. When people talk about punk, they always go to Sex Pistols and the Ramones. I'm more of a Dead Kennedy's and Black Flag kind of guy, though the band that essentially invented the genre were the Stooges. Well, they were garage, but had many punk characteristics.

But yeah, to echo the people with sense, Lavigne is a terrible blight on the music industry. Hot though.
