The Pick Up The Phone tour, a fall outing that was to benefit suicide-prevention services and raise awareness of mental health issues, has been canceled because Justin Furstenfeld, lead singer of the tour's headlining band Blue October, "is being treated for suffering an extreme mental anxiety attack".
Furstenfeld was hospitalized, and his doctors ordered that the tour be canceled.
"Mental health diseases are unpredictable," Furstenfeld said in a prepared statement. "And on the eve of this tour in support of a cause that means the world to me, I am in need of time to heal from a setback in my own personal life, which is severe enough for me to seek hospitalization. I hope that my action to seek the strength and safety of treatment will inspire others that are suffering to do the same."
The tour, which was to feature opening act B.o.B., had been scheduled to kick off last night in Charleston, SC, and had been scheduled to visit clubs in 18 US cities.
