Daughtry, the rock band formed by "American Idol" finalist Chris Daughtry, is hitting the road hard over the next few months as it rides high on the success of its debut album.
The group will stop by fairs and festivals all over the US through October and open for Nickelback in a handful of arenas in the US and Canada.
Daughtry's self-titled debut was released in November, climbed to No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart, and has since been acknowledged by the Recording Industry Association of America as the biggest-selling album of 2007, according to a press release. The set, which is reported to be the fastest-selling debut rock album since SoundScan started keeping track, scored triple-platinum status during the first six months of the year. "Daughtry" is also the fifth best-selling digital album of all time, according to the band's website.
The set has spawned hit singles "It's Not Over" and "Home," which have appeared on rock, pop and adult contemporary charts. Those tunes and a couple more are streaming at Daughtry's MySpace page.
Chris Daughtry found quick fame last year as a final-four contestant on FOX-TV's "American Idol." After being voted off the show, he turned down an offer to replace Fuel's lead singer and set off on his own career.
In putting together his debut, Daughtry collaborated with a host of songwriters including SR-71 singer Mitch Allan, Shinedown's Brent Smith and Evanescence co-founder Ben Moody.
