GN'R Drop Eagles Of Death Metal

Eagles Of Death Metal appear to have been removed from the Guns N' Roses tour after only one show due to an overwhelmingly poor reception the band got from the GN'R audience during Eagles' tour opener.

According to several fans who attended Nov. 24 Guns N' Roses concert at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio (also featuring Sebastian Bach and Suicide Girls), people were booing throughout Eagles' hour-long set, with some of the GN'R fans calling the group's performance "horrid at best" and describing the band's music as "pretty fucking lame," with a repertoire of songs that sound "almost the same."

Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose apparently agreed with his fans, because a few songs into GNR's set he reportedly said something to the effect of, "So how'd you like The Pigeons Of Shit Metal? Don't worry, that's the last show they're playing with us."

Eagles Of Death Metal released its second album, "Death By Sexy", earlier this year. The CD features appearances by Mark Lanegan and Queens Of The Stone Age drummer Joey Castillo, while Distillers frontwoman Brody Dalle (QOTSA frontman Josh Homme's girlfriend) and singer Wendy Ray added backing vocals on several tracks.

I just looked up some "Eagles of death metal" tunes... Gave them an honest listen. My first thought was "ew..." So I can definately see where Axl's comming from. Besides, if the fans at Axl's show were booing his opening act, of course he's gonna drop em. They don't appeal to Axl's fan-base.

Who cares. Axel making fun of the Eagles of Death Metal is like the pot calling the kettle black. There is a difference though. Axel at one time was a rock God and has sold more record than EDM will ever sell. GN&R was great in the 80's and early 90's.

I heard Axel sing on an award show a few years back and he was terrible. I haven't heard much since, so I'm not going to really make a judgement. Also, leave Robin Finck out of this. That was for someone that called the band punk asses. Robin Finck played guitar for Nin, which is a completely different style from GN&R, so I do give the man some credit for being able to pull that gig off.

I'm in a band myself and it's much harder than you think to write good material. It's easy to sit around and be a bedroom critic. I'd like to see anyone in this forum out perform Axel Rose. If you can out perform Axel Rose, then you have the right to bitch and complain all you want.

Every album that Axl has put out has been awesome and sold millions. Scoreboard. I have seen the news Guns and Roses this year and they are freaking awesome. Axl sounds great and the new band rocks. If you love great guitar playing you will love this band. Ron Thal (aka Bumblefoot) is a true virtuoso. This band will blow you away. Hell, I bet most on this forum had no idea they were even touring.

OK, so it has been 14 years since Axl has put out a new album. So what, I would rather wait 14 years for a great album than have crappy albums out every 2-3 years. I judge someone from their past performances and if Chinese Democracy is anything like Illusions, Lies, or Appetite than I can wait 20 years.

Not necessarily true; NiN have released essentially only four albums over close to twenty years. GnR have over a not much longer time released five I believe (correct me if I'm wrong). I don't count the millions of remix EP's NiN have released as albums.

And my opinion? I think EoDM are atrociously bad; I generally don't like the whole "joke-metal" thing and they have no right to belittle death metal as a genre that is so much better than them. What Axl did was really rude and would be unacceptable to almost any other band, but EoDM are one of a few that deserve such treatment.

Haven't Heard EODM yet but, what right does Axl have to talk down about another band. It's taken him how long to get GNR going again and they'll never be the same without Slash.

This is my first post here on UG but, as most of us are musicians here . . . shouldn't we all stick together. At least in the sense that every band is unique in there own way, regardless what music or style they play. I think EODM should be given props for going out there and doing the music they made.

Clearly GnR is one of the best rock bands of all time; that's exactly why Axl shouldn't openly insult fledgling bands that HE chose to open for him. Also, it should be clear to basically everyone in the world that Axl is a dick; just read everything former band members have said about him. And for people who hate EoDM, you have to understand that they're not a really serious band; their music is supposed to be funny. People hate them just because they don't get that.

honestly, i understand why the guns and roses people wouldn't like them. what i don't understand is why, if axl decided to have them open for gnr, then why did he totally dis them? why even have them at all?

put it this way: axl's a dick that only does ANYTHING AT ALL that promotes his image. he dropped the eagles of death metal because they gave him a bad image to his fans. if a band plays a bad opening set ON THE FIRST NIGHT, they don't deserve to be dropped. wait a couple more shows. decide then if it really should be done.

Ok everyone listen up and listen good. I was actually at the show in Cleveland and was 50 feet from the stage. The Eagles of Death Metal were in fact one horrible band. Their songs sucked and yes they did all sound the same. They were booed really bad and deservingly so. I realize they are not a similar sounding band as a few of you posted but that was not the reason they were booed. They were booed because they were just that bad. All you GN'R haters have your opinions and comments to leave which from what I read were mostly negative. I saw them live that night and they sounded incredible and the crowd loved every second of it. So keep hating on them or loving them but they are not going anywhere no matter how many new band members they get. Axl and the Guns dropped that sack of shit band off their tour for the best interest of themselves as well as anyone else who would have to suffer listen to the Pigeons of Shit Metal!

Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose apparently agreed with his fans, because a few songs into GNR's set he reportedly said something to the effect of, "So how'd you like The Pigeons Of Shit Metal? Don't worry, that's the last show they're playing with us."

Axl is a really huge shithead. GnR is a big, influential band and the Eagles of Death Metal, although established, are still on their way up. Bigger bands have a responsibility to be kind, supportive, and helpful to whatever smaller bands are on tour with them no matter how they feel about their music. I personally think Axl is a decent vocalist and obviously holds his place in rock history. But that doesn't change the fact that he's a cocky little white-boy prick. It's become clear that Axl is looking out exclusively for himself these days, so it'd be really nice if all of the about GnR fanboys would stop attempting to defend him.

Look at the reviews of thier concerts. I have seen nothing negative about their performances and I have personally been to 2 concerts in September and it was mind blowing. Dirtyfrybassguy I'll bet your life savings that Chinese Democracy won't suck ass. They played 3 new songs at their concert and damn it was worth the wait.

I still find it very hard to understand why they'd be booed the whole time after seeing so many worse bands, that were essentially in an entirely different genre, open for great bands. And yet they didn't get booed, they got the "We'll get there eventually, just be patient" reception, and the main act actually gives recognition for the supporting act(s).
What Axl has done here, along with the crowd, is just impolite and should be a frowned upon act in the rock 'n roll industry. Afterall, they're YOUR support act FFS! Why on Earth would you have them there if you had something against them!?

Firstly, Ive been to a LOT of concerts, 99% of which the bands support each other. Secondly, AXL IS THE ONLY ORIGONAL MEMBER LEFT. A bassists dies or quits? okay, you still basically have the band. A singer dies? Its a little diffrent, but its still the band. All 4 members of your band quit leaving only the singer to bring what.. 7-10 new people in? THATS NOT THE FUCKING BAND.

Dude just because you went to a concert and they didn't say bad things about their opening band doesn't mean they support each other. Hell Hoobastank opened for Velvet Revolver and Hoobastand said Scott Weiland was a complete ass to them. Read about some of the horror stories from all bands and you will find that opening acts will get treated like shit. Plus you toads actually think Axl hand picked this band to open for Guns? Get real people his management takes care of all those details.

To say Axl was the least important member of the band really shows a huge amount of ignorance. I guess the guy who writes most of the lyrics isn't very important. If the old band members were the most important than Velvet Revolver would be doing better than the mediocre album they released.

What is really funny is all these opionions about Guns and Roses are coming from people who have no clue who is in the band and have not even heard them play. Kind of scary how people form judgements without any facts involved. I like guns 'n roses, and i see no reason in bashing the new version of the band musically until i see what they can do with their new album. BUT... to bash your opening act is shitty, and there's no two ways about it. talking about hoobastank and velvet revolver in comparisson doesn't realy work, because firstly, hoobastank didn't say shit on stage to get a rise from the crowd, and secondly hoobastank werent putting down the band or VRs musical talent, just the actions of one member. To people who keep trying to defend the new GnR: obviously you don't get what "that's not the real band" means. First of all, Axl only writes the LYRICS, not the f***ing MUSIC. And it's not like GnR has ever been a beacon of lyrical quality. If all of the original members quit, clearly the only remaining guy is only holding it together to make money or promote himself. The band is not just the name on it, it's the people that are a part of it. It's Axl Rose now, not GnR. I mean come on, has anyone even looked at the history of GnR? Axl Rose isn't using his high voice regester to sing, he merely has an impressive range. He's not doing falsetto, any TRAINED vocalist would be able to recognize that. The singer of "Eagles Of Death Metal" however... sounds like he's stretching his voice way higher than it should go, and as a result has to sound all whispy and girly like he does (the effects of falsetto singing. Anyone who's heard "The Darkness" knows what i'm talking about.... *rolls eyes*) For that reason, I'll return your attention, dear reader, to my previous statement about the Eagle's lead singer getting hoofed in the balls.

Saw Eagles of Death Metal at a Foo's gig in England, have to pretty much agree with what the G n R fans are saying because i certainly couldn't tell the difference between any of the songs they were playing i thought they were quite terrible! but that's an opinion tho

I was at the Cleveland show, and here's the real deal. I got free tickets from the promoter because of some work I'd done. Turns out, lots of tickets must have been given away, because the entire upper level of the Quicken Loans Arena was curtained off (no tix sold there) and now we hear that prices have dropped to $20 for the rest of the tour. Anyway, the problem was that the bands on the bill that evening were a poor match-up, and the timing was just bad. The first act, Suicide Girls, came on at 8pm. They weren't a band at all, but a group of burlesque dancers prancing around onstage. That's all fine and good, but it meant people waited another hour to see and hear live music. Sebastian Bach (of Skid Row) was up next. He was actually pretty good. Very Spinal-Tappish and stuck in 1990, but hey his voice is still okay and he got the crowd into it. But again, once Sebastian Bach was finished, it was coming up on 10:15pm and people were ready for GnR. Most did not know that Eagles of Death Metal were on the bill. So when Jesse and EoDM came out, people booed. They were tired of waiting. For those who don't know EoDM, they are NOT a metal band, but a garage rock type band that uses subtle humor and irony, which went over the heads of most of the GnR fans in Cleveland. I like the band, which is why I attended the show at all, and I felt Jesse and Co. did a good job of keeping their chins up and finishing their set. They could have lashed out at the audience for the bad reaction, but they were adult about it and did not resort to Axl-ism. Apparently, GnR did not hit the stage until just past midnight, which is when Axl went into his tirade. Again, I repeat, this was all the fault of Axl and his promoters. The silly dancing girls should have been removed from the bill so that the live music coulda started earlier. Axl kept his fans waiting, period. The EoDM did their job just fine. Are the EoDM the best band in the world? No. Are they the next Beatles? No. But I like 'em, and even if they were a no-talent band, it would not warrant the bad reception and the unmitigated reaction from Asshol--I mean, Axl. As for the GnR set in Cleveland, I can't say whether it was any good or not, because I left after EoDM. I felt bad for them, I was embarrassed for my hometown because of the fan behavior (which, to be fair, was Axls fault to make them wait). My brother and I left because it was going on 11:30pm, and I just didn't care to wait anymore. I hope everyone downloads the new GnR record when it comes out, if ever, and that it fails commercially. I wish EodM all the success in the world. Besides, everyone knows that the true GnR now goes by the name "Velvet Revolver."

And for the record, EODM ain't any better than Axl. They had to lie to get sympathy for them. One of them told MTV or whatever that when Axl siad they were dropping them, Tommy Stinson threw his bass of and told Axl he was fed up with his bullshit and then Axl threw the bass at Tommy. That is NOT how it went down. Axl said they were dropping them, the crowd cheered and the band finished their set.
