Green Day Announce Post-Rehab Comeback Show

Green Day have announced their first show since frontman Billie Joe Armstrong went into rehab after an "onstage meltdown" last year.

They will appear on March 15 as SXSW, to coincide with the premiere of "Broadway Idiot", a documentary which looks behind the curtain as Billie Joe Armstrong ventures onto Broadway with "American Idiot".

SXSW visitors will also be treated to a screening of their "¡Cuatro!" documentary about the recent Green Day album trilogy, according to NME.

Armstrong's very public breakdown led to the band cancelling all of their scheduled performances for 2012 and 2013, and a long stint in rehab.

"Let me f--king tell you something," said Armstrong from the iHeartRadio stage in September, "I've been around since f--king nineteen-eighty-f--king-eight. You're going to give me one f--king minute? You've got to be f--king kidding me. What the f--k? I'm not f--king Justin Bieber, you motherf--kers."

Their previously scheduled US tour dates will pick up again from March 28.

I'm doubting this is a PR scheme, as you'd expect they would want to ride the wave of attention their trilogy got. Having to reschedule two and a half years worth of touring seems like a financial suicide.

Don't forget we are still going on tour!" but I am glad for them to finally get back out there and play some live music again. Plus why does everyone think this is a PR scheme? I thought the trilogy was rather good (especially when you put together your favorites from each album), and it made me so happy to see them get back to their musically fun and light selves.

The whole "outburst" thing is totally heartbreaking for me - I was really rooting for them here. People were liking Uno, and the other two I feel might have hit similar levels. Sadly this event really seems to have halted their small wave back up, and actually put them back down - to the point where I don't know if a comeback is possible any more.

Still rooting for the best for them.
Even through ups & downs, Green Day was one of if not THE first band I really got into. The guys will always have a special place in my heart for that - whether I've outgrown the music or not.
