Korn Cancel European Tour

artist: korn date: 06/13/2006 category: upcoming tours
rating: 0 / votes: 0

Hard-rock band Korn has been forced to cancel its European tour due to a blood disorder called immune thrombocytopenic purpura, suffered by frontman Jonathan Davis, who was hospitalized in London over the weekend.

The act played a shortened set on Saturday at Britain's Download Festival with the help of guest vocalists from Slipknot, Devildriver, 10 Years, Skindred and Avenged Sevenfold (read more at UG story).

Davis has been ordered by doctors not to perform for several weeks, necessitating scrapping dates through July 2 in Leipzig, Germany. The band is hoping to reschedule the shows later this year.

Davis' illness is not expected to affect the band's Family Values tour, which is due to begin July 27 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Deftones, Stone Sour, Flyleaf and Dir En Gray will also be on that bill.

Thanks for the info to Reuters.

1.) The guest vocalists list missed Matt fropm Trivium.
2.) Why did they say 'Slipknot vocalist'? Slipknot, as far as I'm aware, are on hiatus while Corey and Jim do Stone Sour stuff, which was why they were there. He wasn't even in the mask... just seems a bit strange to me.
3.) In the summary, it says it's unspecified, and then in the article is specifies it.
4.) Finally, I'm surprised the writer didn't mention how badly ill he was. He had one twenty-eighth of the minimum level of platelets to be considered healthy... Apparently, if he'd gone to download he'd have died on stage. If he so much as headbanged, he'd have had a hemorrhage.

He posted a letter on korns website - www.korn.com - in case any of you are interested. It's a weird site to navigate through, though.

Wow... nitpicky

Anyway, i wonder what replacement Graspop is going to get to fill the empty gap in the schedule. Hopefully it'll be something better!

I find it amusing that the article refers to them as a 'hard-rock band'. Korn is and always will be Nu-metal damn it, they cannot change that.

PapaDelicious wrote on 06/13/2006 - 03:29 pm / quote |
but it's not like there's anything explicitly wrong with 'nu-metal', either. Really a shame about him though, but at least it (hopefully) won't have any permanent effects.

I wasn't implying there's anything wrong with it, i don't like it myself, but it's just that all the nu-metal bands have tried to change their image and sound ever since it became 'uncool' to like it and that irritates me slightly.

Why are you are analysing this article so closely?
Why would they include Matt Heafy? He is part of the metalcore scene, and covers bands such as Iron Maiden and Metallica. I doubt he would be interested in doing Korn shows.
And they called Corey the 'Slipknot singer' because that's what Corey is, and is known for. Not everyone knows about Stone Sour.
And what is it that is unspecified that you mention?

"ITP occurs most often in women over 40 years of age. It may be acute, lasting for 6 months or less, or chronic, lasting for over a year. The acute type is more often seen in children and will cure itself in more than 80% of cases. The chronic type is more commonly seen in adults and it tends to get worse as the disease progresses."

I actually got that disease when i was 8 months old, probably the acute version from the above post. It caused all my muscles to bruise for no reason, and almost killed me because I got bruises on my diaphragm and heart which could've caused them to stop working. But I'm alive, and I kind of feel for Jonathan Davis, because I've seen pictures of me with it (I don't remember having it obviously) and it looks AWFUL.
