In honor of choreographer Merce Cunningham’s 90th birthday, Sonic Youth and bassist John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin are set to collaborate on a piece of music being composed by Takehisa Kosugi.
The show, named "Merce Cunningham At 90", will take place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City. The show will run from April 16 through April 19, so there will be plenty of chances to see the performance.
This isn’t the first time the
Merce Cunningham Dance Company has managed to pull some big names for one of their events. In 2003 they paired together
Radiohead and
Sigur Rós for a show, titled "
Split Sides", in honor of the company’s 50th anniversary.
In other Led Zeppelin news, the band is still looking for a singer to replace Robert Plant on their upcoming reunion tour after Plant turned them down to focus on his work with singer Alison Krauss. It’s hard to blame him considering the two were just nominated for five Grammy Awards including Record of the Year and Album of the Year.
