Following his summer stint with the Warped Tour and a September 18 performance at the University of Utah, the rising reggae superstar Matisyahu will be starting his own headlining tour this fall. The recently announced 38-date trek kicks off October 18 at the Eagles Club in Milwaukee, WI, and is slated to close on December 18 at Higher Ground in Burlington, VT.
The tour will take the vocalist from coast to coast, including multiple performances in Texas and California.
Matisyahu also has two Canadian gigs scheduled at the end of the North American trek: December 16 in Toronto, ON, and December 17 in Montreal, QC.
A rotating lineup comprised of Future Rock, Chester French, Flobots, Benny Cassette and K'naan will provide support during select portions of the tour. In the past, Matisyahu opened for 311's Summer Unity Tour in 2007, and was supported on his own headlining trek by popular rockers Plain White T's and Yellowcard.
The Orthodox Jewish rapper debuted in 2004 with "Shake Off The Dust…arise," an album that showcased his unique blend of contemporary reggae and hip hop with traditional Jewish themes. However, Matisyahu did not gain widespread notice until 2006's "Youth," a record that peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.
Reports published in 2007 suggested Matisyahu would release his follow-up to "Youth" early in 2008, but the album never arrived. Later reports offered early 2009 as the new release for the disc, though the performer has not released any official announcements on the subject.
