Metallica have announced their very own festival, "Orion Music + More", which will take place in Atlantic City, New Jersey from June 23-24.
Fans of the band can look forward to headline performances of the "Black Album" and "Ride The Lightning". It will be the only opportunity to see these albums performed in full in North America, though European fans will get a similar opportunity as various festivals including Download.
The event will be managed by C3 Presents, the team behind
Lollapalooza, to make sure the event goes off without a hitch.
Unusually, the lineup is not as heavy as you might expect. Indie rock acts will take prominence at Orion, with acts including Arctic Monkeys, Modest Mouse, Best Coast, F--ked Up, The Gaslight Anthem and Hot Snakes, according to Stereogum. Heavier acts include Avenged Sevenfold.
"We’ve had the idea of doing our own lifestyle festival with lots of diverse music and fun and games for years," drummer Lars Ulrich said (via Gibson). "Finally this year all the practical ducks lined up in a row, and we are beyond psyched to bring Orion to our fans, friends and the curious."
Ulrich went on to say that December was one of the most incredible months ever for Metallica. The band celebrated their 30th anniversary at the Fillmore in San Francisco, CA, where they performed with old friends and their heroes on stage.
