Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth And Anthrax To Tour Together?

Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth And Anthrax To Tour Together?

Slayer guitarist Kerry King has told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine that he has heard through the grapevine that Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich is plotting a tour that would include Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax.

Should this tour materialize, this would be the first time that the so-called "Big Four" of thrash have toured together as part of the same bill. Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax were joined by opening act Alice In Chains for the U.S. Clash Of The Titans tour in 1991, while Metallica and Megadeth last shared a U.K. stage at Milton Keynes Bowl in 1993.

In an interview conducted yesterday (Wednesday, September 2) in London, Metal Hammer asked Kerry if there had been a temptation to bring the co-headline tour that Slayer are about to embark on with Megadeth in Australia and Canada to U.K. shores.

"I think it would be cool but I knew we had this planned before all of this Megadeth stuff started happening," said King. "They're going to Australia with us, they're going to Canada again with us. I think it would be cool for the European fans to bring that over here because, shit, we didn't even consider playing with those guys since 1990."

So could it be possible that we could get a tour that includes the "Big Four?"

"I've heard people referencing Lars," said King. "I don't know Lars that well and I haven't heard it from Lars, but apparently he's talking to somebody about it. Maybe us, Metallica, Megadeth (and), I think he even threw in Anthrax and I said in this day and age, I know we had that time together, but how do you leave out Machine Head? There's better options than ANTHRAX and that's nothing against Anthrax, but they've just been in pieces for quite some time and that doesn't make as much sense to me."

Thanks for the report to Blabbermouth.net.

Definately Machine Head over Anthrax. I love old Anthrax, but they really aren't as good these days as the rest of the Big Four. They don't technically have a singer at the moment, whereas Machine Head are absolutely amazing at the moment.

I personally like machine head more than Anthrax but if they're going to do a tour with Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth they should at least include Anthrax to complete the big 4 imo.

Kerry King is an *******. The goal of this tour is to reunite the "Big Four," not reunite three of the four and throw in Machine Head. Nothing against Machine Head but Anthrax deserves to be apart of this. I'm surprised Kerry King didn't say that Metallica wasn't "metal" enough for him to perform with...

you would have to have Anthrax just because the big four headlining would be awesome... anthrax has always been the underdog, but they're still good enough to be there... this is about an entire generation of metal.. machine head are good... but they didn't spawn a genre...

As someone old to enough to have been in front row for Clash of the Titans I would have to say that Machine Head could open the tour much like Alice in Chains did, but if you are going to have a major tour like that you have to include Anthrax.

The original "Clash" was an amazing show and throwing Metallica in there would be cool for some. (I am not a big Metallica fan, but it would still be a hell of a show.)

darkl64 wrote on 09/03/2009 - 12:37 pm / quote |
1. They'd only play stadiums.
2. Megadeth Slayer and Anthrax wouldn't get enough stage time, and they'd all argue about order.
3. I think it's great that Kerry holds Machine Head at a simmilar level to the big four, because it's sure as hell what they deserve.

Fuck Machine Head. People like to forget how they've always released albums based on what was popular at the time. Anthrax had more than their fair share of crap too, but Spreading the Disease and Among the Living are classics. And not in The Blackening "look how hardcore we are" way. Reform Vio-Lence and put them on the bill, but Machine Head beyond lame.

IMHO, I prefer Machine head over Anthrax but tbh, I rather see Anthrax int his because it wouldn't feel right to me. Machine Head isn't part of the Thrash Four and never will be. the only way this can be right is if the ORIGINAL thrash four were in it together.

Kerry King seems like such a bitch. It seems that he uses every opportunity he has to advertise slayer and talk shit about other bands. I doubt this tour even exists. He probably just wants to get slayer's name in the news. Reign in Blood and South of Heaven were good but he is really not that good of a musician and Slayer has been releasing the same album for the last ten years.

KnotParkDay wrote on 09/03/2009 - 12:54 pm / quote |

I would definatly go

Cafas wrote on 09/03/2009 - 12:55 pm / quote |
My original comment aside, comments about the tour 'not being the same' if different bands were included are funny to me. Chances are no one here as any connection whatsoever to the scene, or what it is (including me), so the only 'integrity' in the lineup is what's been read in magazines. Which is also why people jizz over these bands and ignore Sodom and Kreator. Testament could have very well be one of the 'big four'.

herman ri2 wrote on 09/03/2009 - 12:57 pm / quote |
TBH, I don't see why Kerry thinks that they deserve to be in this more than Anthrax and saying who deserves the spot of Anthrax. Slayer hasn't done anything amazing since 1990. Every album after 1990 is basically just recycled slayer riffs and garbage solo works.

PLOP wrote on 09/03/2009 - 12:59 pm / quote |

In megadeth, they had different ideas for things and thats the reason they havent changed. They get new ideaas because they have new members. For this reason and others, i believe Metallica the better band. Dave mustaine is a dickhole. He said in an interview that was on here "i saw my names above James and Kirk on the list. Something along those lines. He's not a nice person but a good guitar player. Kirk and James are both nice people and can play guitar really well.

It was daves fault he got kicked out of the band. He was violent and poured beer on Ron McGovneys bass. I also read someithng about him kicking James dog but im not sure on that one. The other guys couldnt take it. Anyone would have done the same thing.

Metallica has no more headbanging riffs, they're sailing down the tubes. Look at Slayer, they're still fast as **** just like the olden days. Metallica has changed for the worst but that would the most epic tour of any tours in the history of tours

I mean my 4 favourite bands are propably Metallia/Megadeth/Lamb of God/Machine Head, but still, it's the Big Four! This is what everybody's been waiting since the late 80's!

I there would be too much tension for it too happen, and no one would be satisfied with their stage time. For it to work it'd have to be at least a 4 hour show and most people would be so tired by the last part of the show that it wouldn't even be fun. Good idea? Yes Practical? No. On the Big 4 and who belongs who doesn't. It's Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax, they were THE thrash bands in the 80's and whether or not you like what they do now, look back to when they started and then say if they belong to be in on the list. It deserves to be more of reunion tour than in regards to what's going on now, cus imo what they all have going now is nothing compared to alot of other bands. /rant

King does have a good point. Although Anthrax has some amazing music, as of the past few years the band has been pretty chaotic - original members coming back and leaving, new members coming in, etc.

I would love to see Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer no matter who the fourth band would happen to be.

Sounds as real as a fairy tale..... No way all these guys are going to tour together because all I see is old tensions bubbling. Just thinking about Mustaine sharing the stage with Metallica makes me a little creeped out. However, if this were to materialize it would probably be an monumental moment in thrash history. Just thinking: instead of making this a tour with just the Big Four, how about turn into an amazing, memorable thrash festival! Get Exodus, Testament, Sepultura, and screw Machine head. (sorry, shadesofanger I didn't notice you mentioned the festival idea before me. Just noticed that when I finshed. Sorry!)

As much as i'd like to see this happen, i dunno.. Don't get me wrong it'd be an amazing gig, one to tell the grand children, i just think there might be one or two too many ego's in the way. If Lars is organizing it then it's obvious where Metallica will play. Actually, knowing Lars, even if it wasn't him that got it together he'd demand to headline which kinda makes my point - how will the others work it out? Have they all mellowed enough not to let stuff like where on the bill you are bother them? Then there's the cost - tickets are gonna be a fortune. And they know people will pay jacking up the price even more. At least the promoters will look to make as much as they can.. The demand worldwide would be gigantic. It's a tour that could go on for years!

I know i've been very skeptical/pessimistic but i would love to see this happen, as would any metal fan. Except this guy:

i completely agree dude, i also like to note how he said Megadeth was touring with "them" not give credit where credit is due and say they were touring together. King is just a tool.

It would be an awesome show, I just couldn't see it happening.
1. It's a load of big bands, and the tickets would be through the roof.
2. The show would last at least 6 hours.
3. Kerry king talks too much shit to share the stage with Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax. We all know his opinions on everyone but Slayer. Then there was the whole Dave Mustaine fallout with Metallica, possibly a little awkward for him even if they made up.

The festival style show, with many more bands would work well. Especially if Dream Theater, Tool, Meshuggah, and Lamb of God were playing as well.

I agree. Leave out the other two and just make it the two great metal bands ever. I'd HATE to have to sit through Slayer and Anthrax to get to my bands. I saw The Offspring a few months ago and I had to suffer through 5 lame emo bands, which made no sense because The Offspring have nothing to do with emo.

Testament could have very well be one of the 'big four'.

you should not assume that everyone on this thread jizzes over the big four, when i personally like sodom and testament more than anthrax and most megadeth. think about what you say before you sey it.

Let me add my bit, "The Big Four" name comes from the 1986 - 87 era of Thrash Metal; Metallica - Master of Puppets, Megadeth - Peace Sells, Anthrax - Among the Living, and Slayer - Reign in Blood. The best Albumns by the biggest Thrash bands of the day. Testament also had a good bit of noteriety and Exodus would be the next in line but MachineHead were nowhere to be found, therefore cannot be included in this conversation. What the f was Kerry thinking? You might like MachineHead better than any of these other bands but in the context of the "Big Four", they dont exist! This being said where do I get my Tix.

It should be like an ozzfest type thing.....the Big four at the Main stage and at the second stage, put Exodus and Testament as the main acts and some smaller thrash bands.....or put the Big four and have a band like Lamb of God or Machine head open at the main stage.....point is, i think it should be like a big metal fest that includes more than the big four and machine head. What about Exodus, Kreator, Overkill, Testament and nuclear assault?.....hell maybe even toss some Warbringer and Annihilator in there too.....The thrash gods should form the first festival to cast only REAL metal unlike ozzfest. +1000. Slayer is a big joke so is Kerry King. They are boring and too repetitive. Anthrax must reunite with Joey Belladonna for this.

i vote they take Metallica off the bill and bring in Machinehead. Id go then.

First off, all you guys who are saying, take this band off and put this band on wouldn't make it a Big 4 Tour. regardless of who you think deserves it. And the lineup would go
Anthrax then Slayer then Megadeth then Metallica.
Its how people have categorized the big four for years, no matter what there doing today. If the tour would happen, that would be the most obvious and best lineup.

Umm, you do realise they're friends again, right?

And I've seen Machine Head once before, when I was right into them (Now I've gotten into more 80's and earlier music), and they're good live, not as good as the big 4 on one tour, but good.

Maybe they could do a short set to open, like 30 minutes or something, then they could give us a whole huge set of thrash, like what Metallica did for the Live shit Binge and Purge. And I'd love to see all 4 bands get up and do something, never been a fan of that, but it could be interesting with the big 4 up there.

Also, it kinda seems like Kerry is sucking up to MH a little, I know a couple of years back Rob Flynn was abusing the hell out of King, idk, probably all good now, but it just seems a little weird to me.

I reckon if Metallica could go back in their lives by 20 years, and then come on this tour, it'd be brilliant.

starfire666 wrote on 09/04/2009 - 04:07 am / quote |
Well, let' see:
1. ANTHRAX got IMO into the "Big Four" completely by accident and their status nowadays is quite disputable
2. METALLICA didn't make a great record in about 18 years
3. SLAYER still got it, but it's more of the same thing each time
4. MEGADETH is the only band from this bunch that really deserves recognition and praise for their music.
So what good would this tour do anyway?!

KingSquall802 wrote on 09/04/2009 - 04:13 am / quote |
OK, quit whining about who's gonna replace one or the other.

First of all, this is not yet confirmed, its just a rumor.

Second, Megadeth has conflicts w/ Metallica and Slayer, Lars and King. and both Slayer and Megadeth doesnt like Metallica. So how could it be possible?

Third, Anthrax doesnt have a lead singer, who's gonna sing for them? John Bush?

Fourth, Machine Head is a questionable thrash metal band, they are more like groove metal. So they shouldnt be in a thrash metal event.

Last, if this is true. Just leave it to Big 4, no matter how bad they are. Just leave it as it is. Thats the event.

Symmetry4321 wrote on 09/04/2009 - 04:39 am / quote |

(no, I WANNA HEADLINE, WHY THE FUCK DOES METALLICA GET TO HEADLINE, WAH-WAH-WAH!!!) Sorry dave Statistically metallica always has been a bigger band than yours, thats why they're headlining, is that okay with you, your magesty?

Whos Kerry King to say that Machine Head deserve a spot OVER anthrax? This is another reason why this'll never happen, Kerry King is a ****in *******, and its well known that him and Dave Mustaine are two egomaniacs that have ALWAYS shit-talked eachoter.

Good-luck making this happen, its about as likely as another pink floyd reunion, Dave Mustaine playing the part of Roger Waters to Lars' and Kerry Kings' David Gilmour, HE CAN'T GET ALONG WITH EITHER OF THEM FOR LONG ENOUGH TO DO SOMETHING MEANINGFUL.

Sorry, but I don't see Mustaine agreeing to tour with Tallica. And why not get Anthrax AND Machine Head on the tour?[/quote]First off, the OLD Dave that didn't have crap goin on in his life wouldn't agree in a million years, but now, the way he's shaped up, he wouldn't refuse because he'd look like a fake, liar, and other names because he's been telling people he is a new man. Refusing would just put him back at the bottom, even though he is the best Metal guitarist, his rep is terrible.

Second of all, putting machine head in the tour, along with Anthrax, would be cool, but stupid. It definitely would be a cool show, but that's why it's the "Fearsome Four" (by the way that is the actual name for those people who say it's the "Big 4"). It's not the fearsome "five".

Anthrax is worthy of the fearsome four just as much as Machine Head, it's just the fact that Machine Head was like all other thrash bands at the time, so they didn't stick out like Anthrax. Anthrax was ahead of their time, just like the other three, especially Slayer.

By the way if such a tour happened, there probably wouldn't be a headlining band, because they all deserve it.

If they did the most likely would, of course be Metallica, but that's only because they earned it. They worked all their career really hard, consistently made good albums, except of course after ReLoad up until Death Magnetic, and most of the people on this website bash Metallica because of stupid reasons like htey're too mainstream or they took Dave's songs. That's stupid. They're mainstream because most of the world like their music. I feel the idea of mainstreaming music is stupid. It's played a lot for a reason, because IT IS GOOD!!!

If it's supposed to be "real thrash", then like I said, Testament deserves the spot more than Anthrax does. Hell, I also agree that Exodus deserves the spot more than Slayer. Slayer is kind of like the Slipknot of their time: they play talentless music, and all the fanboys cream their pants for them.

Besides, nowhere in the article did it state that it was to be JUST the Big Four.

Anthrax is real irrelevant atm. Pantera or Machine Head would fit in nicely but yeah...

Why not do it festival style.

Machine Head
Exodus
Testament
Lamb of God
Anthrax
Slayer
Megadeth
Metallica

That was my idea. And throw in a whole bunch of new thrash bands i.e. Municipal Waste, Toxic Holocaust, Warbringer, and make it a worldwide thrash celebration festival with multiple stages etc

Sorry if everything i wrote came out slurred lol.

I would totally love to go to a thrash fest! \m/

Agreed, thrash fest would be beast, Metallica should play like

Creeping Death
Seek & Destroy
Jump In The Fire
The Four Horsemen
Fight Fire With Fire
Master Of Puppets
Welcome Home(Sanitarium)
Enter Sandman
Blackened
Harvester Of Sorrow
Whiplash
Hit The Lights

Encore:
Damage Inc.
No Remorse
Ride The Lightning

funny, they went downhill, lets see...never? cliff was the downfall of their thrash days, but they still put out ...And Justice, but anyways i think it was Bob Rock, after all, Black, Load, ReLoad, St. Anger WERE produced by HIM
