With the release of a new 7" single coming up next week, Modest Mouse has announced plans to return to the road late this summer for a mix of Canadian dates and US festival appearances.
The Washington-based indie-rock outfit, accompanied by Grandaddy guitarist Jim Fairchild, will begin Aug. 17 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, followed by three Canadian gigs before continuing on to the US. The 14-city run includes performances at San Diego's Street Scene (8/28), San Francisco's Outside Lands Festival (8/30) and Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival (9/7), among others.
The group's most recent full-length studio album, "
We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank," surfaced in early 2007 and debuted atop The Billboard 200. In May, the band released "
Satellite Skin," a limited-edition 7" single backed by another new track, "
Guilty Cocker Spaniels"; both tracks are currently streaming at the group's MySpace page.
Another limited-edition 7" single featuring two new songs - "Autumn Beds" and "Whale Song" - will be available June 23 at retailers, as well as on iTunes.
"We Were Dead ..." followed 2004's "Good News For People Who Love Bad News," the band's first platinum-certified album, featuring the hit single "Float On."
The group is rumored to begin working on a new studio album shortly, though no official announcements have been made.
